|

Hello, all.
Brand new to the site. The only fishing I have done is Bass, Perch and Catfish here in Ohio, Walleye and Pike in Canada.
What I am trying to learn, though, is the Tuna trade via Japan.
Does anyone here have any idea how to get started? I'm sure I could get a boat financed and learn how to fish for Tuna, but what I am specifically interested in is the commercial procedure for catching the fish, transporting it, and selling it in a foreign market like Japan.
If anyone here has any knowledge of this I would really appreciate any help you could provide.
Thanks.

I am not sure why , except for being money hungry and unpatriotic, you would want to be involved with a trade of any sort with traders and thieves like the Japanese, nothing against the Japenese people in general, but the Japanese fishing fleets are SERIOUS rule breakers and well known for being the PIRATES of the tuna fishery..... _________________ Mate on Reelescapecharters.com...Now booking for LOWER BAY AND ATLANTIC STRIPED BASS come check us out!! |

Uh... ok?
The Japanese eat close to 1/5th of the world's fish market. As such, there is incredible demand over there, as well as incredible profit to be made both here and there. |

I don't see how you can call him unpatriotic for wanting to get in on what thousands of commercial tuna fishermen have cashed in on over the years. I am not saying it is right or wrong but that it can hardly be a gauge one's patriotism.
Some are just sport fishing Captains that periodically catch a tuna worth shipping to the Japanese and they are far from unpatriotic.
And I wouldn't call them money hungry either. Many of the Captains I know are in a tough business and operate on a shoe string budget.
With fuel bills going through the roof I don't begrudge any Captain that may want to be God Forbid, so unpatriotic as to sell a fish to the Japanese.
JDOhio - Have you searched Google for terms like Commercial tuna fishing, etc? _________________ Take Care, And "Hold His Head Up"

| Yeah, JoeDodd, I have Googled the heck out of it the last few weeks. A lot of general information that really doesn't get me anywhere as far as specifics go. I suppose I need to hear from someone who has dealt directly with this particular market and process. |

http://www.tradekey.com/kb-yellowfin-tuna/ . I am flabbergasted for two seconds that you are unaware that the Tuna industry is worldwide and very honorable. The link is from googling "tuna buyers". Japanese are very industrious people with honest and dishonest individuals in their midst, just like any other people. As to the guy who buys a bag of mj? If it`s grown here or grown by the man`s neighbor, it`s clean as a whistle.
Be a little more informed before you dys either Japanese or marijuana.

We do. Ten million dollars from Japan turns into twice that when it is re-invested here at home. The commercial fishing industry in the US Tuna interest has moved way out into the Pacific. Purse Seining and Longlining are used to capture Tuna out of Hawaii and places westward. The only good thing about this mass murder is that there are big ass Yellowfin showing up again in numbers that really please sportfishermen who spend way more moola than the commercial fisherman.
`Dago Yellowfin
Fifteen tuna exceed 200 pounds, a trophy-class fish. In an extraordinary season, San Diego-based long-range boats, making runs hundreds of miles to waters off the Mexico coast, have averaged a dozen such yellowfin per trip. The Excel returned to Point Loma with a record 41 big ones in December. 400# is a milestone fish.
Species Facts
Science Name: Thunnus albacares
Other Names: yellow-finned albacore, allison tuna, Autumn albacore
Ideal Temp: 70 to 84
World Record: 388 lbs. 12 oz, Mexico
Environment: offshore
Techniques: Heavy tackle, trolling

Be that a fact that much of Japanese business is warfare to them; it is much preferred than an Imperial Army kicking our butts, and an Imperial Navy siezeing the Pacific. . I got me two Toyotas and that`s all I need to know about Japan`s capabilities
