Fishing report from Capt. Erik Lorentzen at Casa Vieja Lodge, Guatemala. "But first a list of characters, so I don't have to repeat everytime:

Cañaso - 37 Daytona with Capt. Chico Alvarenga
Finest Kind - 40 Whiticar with Capt. Ron Hamlin
Intensity - 37 Gamefisherman with Capt. Mike Sheeder
Release - 37 Merritt with Capt. Nico Melendrez
Rum Line - 40 Gamefisherman with Capt. Chris Sheeder
Spindrift - 38 Stolper with Capt. Nicho Alvarenga
Twenty - 40 Rybovich with Capt. Jason Brice
Pelagian - 37 Rybovich with Capt. Erik Lorentzen

The numbers and what they mean: first is number of fish raised, the middle is number of fish bites, and lastly the number of fish released.

We use dead large medium ballyhoos on circle hooks and Cam Sigler fly poppers. So here's my report starting with April Fools Day - which wasn't any joke - these are the actual figures:

01 April:
Cañaso 49-37-28
Finest Kind 65-61-44
Release 51-48-21 with Al's group from Latvia
Rum Line 49-5-2 on the fly

02 April:
Cañaso 33-26-17 with 1 blue about 250# released
Intensity 52-41-28
Release and Al's Lativan group 56-38-10
Rum Line 44-8-3, 1 blue raised

03 April:
Cañaso 15-5-1 on the fly and 5 on bait
Finest kind 14-7-2 Dr. Sherman's party on the fly and 2 blue marlin bites on the fly
Intensity 13-3-2 on the fly, 2-2-0 on blues
Release 21-16-1 on the fly with AL’s Latvian group
Rum Line 34-13-4 on the fly
Afinity 34-30-21 on bait

For Al's group, the Janis Legzdins group from Latvia, aboard the Release the figures for their first three days are: 128-102-32. Not bad for a group of trout fishermen - doing their own hooking first time on circle hooks! They are going to Tikal for a couple of days, then back fishing on the Release for three more days. So, I will have another report for this group later this week.

04 April:
Cañaso 37-27-17 on bait
Finest Kind 21-8-1 on fly (Dr. Sherman)
Intensity 26-10-3 on fly
Rum Line 26-11-6 on the fly

05 April:
Cañaso 22-19-12,
Finest Kind 25-9-4 Fly, 4-2 on sails conv.
Intensity 31-8-4 fly
Release 25-11-2 on bait.

06 April:
Cañaso 15-13-4
Rum Line 21-9-4 fly

07 April:
Cañaso came in early caught 2 dolphinfish
Intensity 29-25-15
Release 40-30-5, 1-4 on the fly – Al’s Latvian group on their 2nd trip
Rum line 26-11-5 on the fly"

09 April:

For the 2nd leg of the Legzdins trip, the figures were 108-88-40 + 1 on fly

13 April:

Rum line 37-28-17 on bait
Day 4 for Rizzotto group – looks like some gave up the flies for bait.
