Fishing Report: The photo of the week shows Ron Wakita with a very bright Kalum River doe Steelhead caught Saturday, October 24, 2009. The fish was released after this quick photo. This fish is a “star” in my latest video clip…see below.
Noel Gyger - WEEKLY FISHING REPORT dated October 18 – October 25, 2009
Dear Fishing Friends:
SUMMARY: Weather was fair all week but lots of rain today. Some rivers have come up but most are still in fishable shape. The Coho runs are coming to an end and most fish are in their spawning colours. By regulation it closes for Coho on October 31. We’ve had a very good run of Coho this year. Both spin, conventional, spey fly fishing and single hand fly fishing have been working well. The Kitimat Coho run is really slowing down but catches can happen if you know where the fish are holding upriver. I think it is a good idea to release all dark Coho and keep only the bright ones. Another good idea, for conservation, would be to keep only males. Cutthroat Trout fishing on the Kitimat River is good. For all of the fine details and photos on the Kitimat River and Douglas Channel please check out the Ron Wakita report below. The Zymoetz (Copper) River is fishing “fair” for Steelhead. The Kalum is fishing only “fair” for Steelhead but “excellent” for Coho. Check out the Steelhead video clip on the Kalum River I shot yesterday, Oct 24. I was float fishing with Ron Wakita. Please scroll down to see the “new” Product Profile

Fishing Report: Since the salmon and halibut fishing season is over, we at Salmon Eye Charters are looking for other ways to get our fishing fix.
In order to do this, we’ve been putting together some fishing videos of our clients this past summer. Take a look! We’ve had a lot of fun with these, and we hope you’ll enjoy them, too.
Salmon Fishing Video
Halibut Fishing Video
The videos were taken out of Ucluelet, BC, Canada. In the salmon fishing video, we trolled for salmon with flashers and coyote spoons, and in the halibut fishing video we bottom bounced.
You can also see pictures of our season on our blog at www.salmoneye.net/category/fishing-reports.

Fishing Report: Fishing off the west side of Vancouver Island has been fun and productive this summer! Ucluelet, BC continues to surprise with the numbers and size of the salmon here! 2009 has been a great year.
We have been catching Chinook Salmon (Kings), Coho Salmon (Silvers), and Halibut mainly, and there have been plenty of them here!
During certain times, a Ucluelet fisherman probably could have caught and released between 200-300 fish in one day! We were bringing them in by the bucket-full!
The Chinook have been large this summer, between 10-45 pounds. We caught these fighters through most of August.
Coho fishing was spectacular this year! They were so plentiful that we often couldn't get our line down while trolling for more than a minute without a bite! They bit anything we used.
Mainly, we trolled hutchies, spoons, anchovies, and large tomic plugs. We usually travelled less than 20 miles offshore, and had plenty of salmon and halibut in that area! The Halibut limit was raised to 2 per day in August, which helped us bring in the carry limit with less travel time.
We also saw plenty of wildlife. Whales came by almost every day! While they can sometimes scare the fish, this didn't really cause us trouble. There are so many fish on so many banks that we could see whales, limit out, and still get home early!

Fishing Report: King salmon fishing on Lake Ontario continues to be productive. It's certainly not great but consistent action is the best way to describe it. Most trips we are taking 5-10 hits landing 3-6 salmon. The size of the king salmon has been impressive this season. 20-25 pound kings have been common.
Trolling just north of the Salmon River off the eastern shore of Lake Ontario in 120-150' has been our go to fishing grounds. Hits have been coming 90-110' down on flasher/fly combos. A few salmon and steelhead have taking on mag stinger spoons run 20-30' behind the ball.
Brown trout fishing has been very good for those looking for constant action. The trout have been around 3-6 pounds and there's plenty of them. A few kings have also been spotted in the Salmon River up to the hatchery. We have August 5,7,10,11,13,14,16,20,24,27,30 open for morning charters and almost all the afternoons for August are open. Our rates are the most reasonable on Lake Ontario. September and October dates are filling in fast so give us a ring and get in on the action.
Thanks for checking us out!

Ucluelet Fishing Report
Fishing Report updated June 22, 2009.
The prime time to fish here is all summer - well not quite, but since we fish three areas there is usually somewhere to catch salmon and halibut. Most recommended times are:
December to May for the feeder Chinooks and some halibut starting to show in Ucluelet around mid May
May - July for Halibut in Ucluelet and large numbers of Chinook(King) salmon.(they run all summer).
July 15 - September 10 in Ucluelet for large Kings
July, August and September for Coho in Ucluelet
Ucluelet has been very hot the last few years and is expected to continue for this year. If you are trying to decide what time in the summer to come, any time between May and September is good. While June, July and August are peak months, September and October can still see good action as well. Many people are concerned about catching fish, so one thing to note about Ucluelet is that it is not like some other areas that have really slow times and really good times. We have a large area to choose from and there are so many fish travelling past, that you almost always have a good shot of a good days fishing, whether coming in May, June, July, August or September.

Fishing Report: Downtown Vanouver Fishing Report, May 12/09
The chinook fishing off the south end of Bowen Island has continued to be very good this week. We have focused our efforts around the "HUMP" over the last 5 days with good success. On Friday, May 8 fishing was amazing with 10 good fish hitting the gear on Bon Chovy in the morning. The fish we have been landing have been very healthy with an average size of 15 pounds. There have been some reports of fish up to 30 pounds landed recently in local waters. The largest fish we have landed this week is 21 pounds.
The fish have been hitting anchovies, greenish hootchies, and green/glow spoons. We have been running anchovies almost exclusively now. Productive depths have ranged from 60-130 feet. The fishery off the south end of Bowen Island is one of the most productive chinook fisheries of the year. Having said that it is a big area so on some days you have do some searching before fish are found.
Crabbing has continued to be very good in the Vancouver Harbour. Traps are dropped on every fishing charter.
Reports from the Gulf Islands have been encouraging over the last week. With the good numbers fish over on our side of the strait it looks like we should be in for a strong fishery over there this spring and early summer. The Gulf Islands typically offer some great chinook fishing from May to July. 8-10 hour charters as well as good weather are needed to fish the Gulf Islands.
