Fishing Report: Aug 09 Gulf Grouper Deep Sea fishing Report
Little deeper and further offshore are the fishing conditions you are looking for. When you are looking to catch big Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, and Red Snapper the cooler waters in 50 feet or deeper have been the most consistent for catching fish all day long. The shallower waters have plenty of Gag Grouper and other reef fish. They just do not cooperate very long; For example, you may anchor on a reef and catch one or two Grouper then they stop eating. Additionally around 11:00 am on a sunny day it is almost impossible to get any keeper size fish to bite. There are always exception in fishing. However, Off shore the fish tend to feed longer and average length is longer. Dead Threadfin Herring are great to start off with to get the fish chewing. Then drop a live bait down and feel your rod load up when GagZilla takes off towards the rocks. Pinfish, Cigar minnows, and Porgies are great live baits. Live baits seems to get used faster than dead bait so make sure to have plenty.
Tip of the day. Most anglers use 80lb line and 80lb leader material when fishing for Grouper. In deeper water using lighter 60lb monofilament line and longer leaders will always get you more bites, and some times more fish. Getting more bites is what you want then you can worry about trying to land the fish. Most of the time the toughest part of the battle is the first 5 seconds when the fish first senses resistance when hooked. 60

Fishing Report: We had a group fishing this weekend in Manta after many weeks of slow action fishing in Salinas and the results were promising for the starting season here.
Two days fishing on board our Bertram 31 in Manta saw 2 Blue Marlin releases and 2 Stripe Marlin releases and 3 more that got away.
Plenty of bait in the water and great conditions with temperatures at 79F and a northern current give Manta a perfect setting for yet another record season during the summer and fall 2009. The Blues were over the 400lb mark and the Stripes around the 150lb mark.
Manta is famous for the giant Marlin sizes and we are expecting to break the Bluemarlin Lodge Record established in 2007 with a 900 pound Black Marlin released on August of that year. Let´s see who breaks it!!

Fishing Report: As we approach mid-March the big game fishing in New Zealand is still red-hot on the coast & is shaping up to be one of the best seasons for several years.
Whilst occasional storms & shifting blue water makes relocating the heaviest concentrations of fish a necessity, the consistency of fishing remains remarkable.
Double & treble hook ups are still commonplace and I have personally heard two reports on the VHF, where four Marlin have been hooked from “pack-attacks” and, on each occasion, there were only two anglers on board……..interesting!
The size of the Striped Marlin continues to run high with the latest, highly impressive capture, pulling the scales down to 370lbs.
One of the boats competing in the prestigious 8 day, NZ Nationals Tournament, tagged a huge Stripey which was reliably estimated at over 450lbs. As the fish was caught offshore at the Three Kings Islands on only the fourth day of the tournament, the decision was made to forego the return to port to weigh the potential world record fish. It proved a good decision as the boat finished second overall with 19 Marlin.
Some good Blues continue to make their smash & grab raids before embarking upon their characteristic “ballistic” displays. A big fish was weighed at Waihau Bay recently, making 791lbs and a bigger fish was tagged & released from the same area. Its measurements calculated at a minimum of 790lbs and a maximum of 900lbs …a great

Fishing Report: During February we have enjoyed some of the best weather in the season in our shores. Even though it rains at night, during the day we see nothing but sunshine and not a single cloud covers the sky. The good thing is that the fresh breeze is always there for us, which is typical at this time of the year.
During last week we had 4 friends from Finland who had a chance to fish on board the STAMAS 34 for 5 days, and they saw plenty of activity. They were also happy to enjoy the local weather considering the freezing temperatures they have to put up with right now in the Northern European countries.
They saw about a dozen Stripes eating around them during the first 3 days and they managed to hook 5. They were unlucky not to raise them but they put up a good fight. The conditions itself were excellent with sunny skies, tons of bait, water at 78F. Not to mention the dozens of mahi and amberjacks that were hooked. They managed to raise a couple of each which gave them everyday a fresh and delicious Ceviche on board.
The fourth day, the water was at 80F but saw no action and even though the activity concentrated mostly on Stripes, they did see a couple of Blues eating on the last day of fishing but they were not interested in biting. They did manage to raise and release a Stripe that last day to make it up for the Blues they missed earlier in the morning.
Each one left with their personalized Bluemarlin polo type shirt and were surprised to see how our

Fishing Report: Attention everyone!!! This is a lot to read, but it is very much worth it. I'm sending this to you so that you know what's going on in the fishing industry. Please make time to read it.
As it stands right now there is a "sales tax exemption" in place that means charter captains are not required to charge sales tax on fishing charters. However, the governement always keeps their nose in everything that goes on and apparently it is never going to end. It seems to just be getting worse and it drives me crazy!
Florida Guides Association Director, Capt. Bob Zales, has informed us that the Florida Sales Tax Exemption for charter boats is on the table again. The legislative session begins Monday, March 1. If this exemption is lifted it means that all charter captains will have to declare, collect, and pay sales tax on each charter. FGA will take action on behalf of the organization, but each individual needs to contact their state representative and senator and ask them to leave the exemption in place and NOT TO ELIMINATE IT!
This issue needs the attention of all our members. Guides, Associate Members, Business Members and any other contacts you have. Please act promptly to ask that the exemption remain as is and pass this message along to anyone interested party you know.
If it's not for them closing sections of the ocean so that we can't fish at all, or trying to close down the red snapper fishery, the

Fishing Report:
In stark contrast to last season, the fish have really kept us waiting.
Despite the early arrival of a few Blues and the occasional Striped Marlin, the main schools of fish didn’t arrive until the beginning of February.
Whilst the Yellowfin Tuna are still noticeable by their absence and, as yet, Mahimahi and Spearfish are few and far between….the Striped Marlin have arrived in force!
The Bay of Plenty has offered the best fishing in the earlier part of the season, with some very good Blues in the mix (best to date 616lbs) though the depressed economy has lead to many frustrated charter captains tied up at the dock.
Now Tutukaka, further north, is really firing, with double & treble hook-ups a regular feature. Another positive note is the larger than average size of the fish. Most Stripeys are over 200lbs and several over 300lbs are regularly encountered, with the best to date being an impressive 363lbs.
The fish are not particularly easy to hook and the smash & grab at the lures/teasers is often too fast and brief to allow time to switch a live-bait. This makes the recent and successful capture of 23 fish from 35 boats all the more remarkable. There would have been around 100 shots on this day.
With the rate these fish pack on the weight as the season progresses, some record breakers later in the season, if not before, seems likely.
There

Fishing Report: Dear Angler:
Do you want to be a part of the world`s hottest marlin fishing? The bite hot in Galapagos. We can take you the most reliable and hottest marlin fishery on the planet. Here is the latest fishing report:
Jan 31, 2009- Local Captain Edwin Buenaño took his boat the Johnamar to the Rosa Blanca Banks. His guest would be Mr. Tim Choate (a frequent client of the Johnamar for the last few years). Water conditions were nice with blue water offshore after 8 miles. Conditions on the bank were reported to be of "plenty bait, warm water and many tailing fish). Capt Edwin`s account of the fish raised was of 20 stripes on lures managing to release 3 fish. Capt Edwin prefers to use lures to baits. The day ended with much celebration and a tired client.
Feb 1- It was time for the Capt Edwin to take his client Mr. Choate to Rosa Blanca again. The day was blue skies and very reasonable seas. Conditions on the bank were near perfect expressed Edwin. Plenty of tailing fish. However, the fish you did not see were the real biters. Edwin reported raising almost 30 fish. They released 4 stripes and had over 20 bites. The fishing seems to get only better.

Fishing Report: Last January we made a report that described the fishing here like this: ¨Hot weather, warm water, and smoking` fishing¨. Well ……..it seems that history repeats itself.
We have just had some of the most aggressive fishing weeks of the year in this month, starting with the Holiday weekend for New Year´s Eve in Salinas, the Marlin and all around fishing activity has been Non-Stop. We are talking Blues, Blacks, Sails, Tuna, Mahi and all the usual visitors we have around this time of the year. We have not even stopped fishing from Manta and now Salinas is forcing BLUEMARLIN LODGE to multiply itself so we can start its new season in full throttle. Not that we are complaining as you can imagine.
With water temperatures averaging from 78F to 80F this would be ground zero for Big Game fishing now. Maybe that is the reason why the Salinas Yacht Club is hosting in just two weeks the Annual International Tournament with anglers from Puerto Rico, US, Peru and many other countries. That, added to the fact that just last week we were seeing a Grand Slam in one of the boats, kind of makes people want to go out there and fish. Wouldn´t you agree?
Just on New Year´s Eve, almost 30 boats went out during a period of 3 days. The count was at least 50 Marlin strikes (mostly Blues) and counted for 27 releases. Not to mention the dozens of Mahi, Tuna and Wahoo that kept every boat busy. Last weekend with 10 boats out, total releases amounted to 12 and

Fishing Report: More surprises.....we are in the final days of the year and Manta is having solid Marlin numbers, even though the Salinas season has started already.
This weekend, the bite was solid with three boats out counting 5 Striped Marlin releases and 3 Blue Marlin releases (around 400lbs the biggest) . For what it looks like, Manta is going to keep us busy even during the first part of 2009.
Salinas saw the National Tournament at the Salinas Yacht Club end this weekend with average Marlin numbers. Since it is still the beginning of the season, we should see the bite pick up in great numbers there during the next couple of weeks. Total amount of fishing days was 3 with average marlin bites of 5 per boat, not to mention the Mahis and Tunas that are showing up in great numbers and made the day for all the anglers.
It is a good thing to have now two places to choose for fishing. Manta and Salinas promise to keep us on our toes, ready for the latest reports.

Fishing Report: Two of our Slovak friends with a Striped Marlin they released on board the Hatteras 35 ¨Isabella¨.
This month´s results have been quite interesting and surprising as well. We have had two groups fish out of Manta and one group from Salinas.
On the first days of October we hosted a group from as far as Slovakia who came to Manta to have 6 days of fishing (which in the end turned out to be 7 due to the fabulous days of fishing they had). At first we thought that it would be tough for them to see the same type of unbelievable action we say during August considering the fact that in the past, October has been the ¨Last great Manta month of the year¨, or the last month in which Manta gets great Marlin fishing. Usually we start recommending Salinas around this time of the year. However, the Marlins had a different idea for them.
Aboard the group´s HATTERAS 35 ¨Isabella¨, Captained by Angel Bazan, they started out with 6 Blues and 4 Stripes released for the first 5 days, all average sizes ranging on 300 lbs for the Blues and 180lbs for the Stripes. For the next 3 days, they wanted a break on the Marlin and headed out to encircle the Island of La Plata (southwest of Manta) which holds large concentrations of Wahoo, Dorados, and Tuna at this time of the year and were lucky enough to land about a dozen catches, mostly Dorados, which were deliciously grilled in the evening by our staff.
During their week-long fishing plan, a

Fishing Report: Yes it´s true………The title of this report may sound a bit over the line or people may think that these are the same numbers we have seen in Ecuador at this time of the year. Well,…..not quite.
Ever since the time of the legendary and best fishing days we had in Salinas and Manta for many seasons, we have never seen such an Invasion of Blacks and Blues for quite some time.
With water temperatures at 78F and a north current, these past couple of days have been a real ¨Marlin Extravaganza¨. 5 boats out during 4 days. Totalized more that 100 Black and Blue Marlin strikes. Total release amounted for 32. One of the boats even lost 9 on a single day. The important fact again, is that much like last week´s report, these Marlin are Blues, we don´t see the smaller Stripes which are also present here in large numbers around this time of the year. In addition to this, one boat was lucky enough to land a Giant 340 pound Big-Eye tuna. Last year´s national record was 390 pounds, but it was still an enormous fish. Capt. Sergio Bazan of the Bertram 31 was certainly tired on Sunday night after recording 18 Blue Marlin strikes and 6 releases after 4 days of non-stop action. ¨We were aware that Marlins came to Manta during the equatorial summer, but we could have never expected this situation. I´ve been fishing these waters for more than 20 years and this is, by far, the best marlin activity I´ve seen in years¨ he said.
We are expecting these
