Fishing Report: It has been an interesting week. We have had just about every kind of weather mother nature can offer. Rain, wind, cold heat and some of these combined in the same day. The fish don't seem to mind these changes as the bite has been steady each day.
The spawn is wide open here on the St Johns River and the big fish are eating well. A couple days we just didn't have the luck on our side and couldn't seem to get the big fish in the boat.
On Saturday I had the pleasure of fishing with some great guys from Brazil. Jacques 10 years old Jacques JR and Gramps joined me for a 6 hr trip. These guys are used to fishing for the Amazon Peacock Bass and know how to fight a big fish. This was the day we just couldn't get a break on getting the big fish to the boat. Young 10 year old Jacques hooked three fish that were in the 9 to 11 pound range. The reason we know the weight is all three fish jumped close to the boat before coming unbuttoned. One of these fish rapped up in a stump and with about three ft of 25 pound mono line coming out the other side of the stump this fish jumped twice as I was getting the boat to with in a few ft of the stump. The final jump broke the line. Jacques was heart broken and so were the rest of us in the boat.
Today I fished a fullday with Marv and Margie of WIC. We were greeted with rain at daylight and never seen the sun until around 2 pm. The bite was steady most of the day Margie won the most caught with 9 fish

Fishing Report: Just minutes from Miami, Mackerel on Fly and
Great fishing Action in the Creeks at Flamingo
Fishing report for Florida Bay and Biscayne Bay
Feb 1 2010
In Biscayne Bay yesterday we have been doing something I think is fun as hell and that’s fishing for Spanish mackerel on fly. Normally it has to be kind of calm to fish for these guys in my boat because of the proximity to deeper water. These guys average 5 pounds but caught on a 8 weight fly rod will clear all line on the deck and take you into the reel for some drag screaming fun! I have been using white streamers, magnum cut rabbit zonkers 3 inches in length with a lot of gold blue and silver flash, fished with 3 inches of thin wire in front.
Normally we bring them in on a chum slick and throw some pilchards in on them (when we can find them) to keep them going like the Energizer Bunny! You don’t have to be to most accomplished fly fisherman to have fun with these guys either a good 40 foot cast is about all you will need.
Some days of course are better than others but to catch 20 and have another 20 to 30 track fly is a blast. Strip fast ………..!The faster the strip the better and sometimes they fight for the fly! I personally like to use 2 handed strip!
Also in the bay chased

Fishing Report: Sunny South Florida has been not so sunny the last 2 days. It was supposed to rain all day yesterday, but instead it let us down today. The skies were dark, the wind was blowing and the rain was non-stop.
The charter fleet at Bahia Mar had lots of cancellations today. Unfortunately, the weather really wasn't conducive to a fun time on the ocean.
We are looking forward to sunnier days and beautiful clear skies. See everyone out on the rip!

Fishing Report: My folks that we had booked for this morning decided to reschedule the trip for another day. They were very unsure about the weather, and I couldn’t blame them. The skies were overcast. It almost seemed that the weather could not make a decision. To the fisherman of Ft. Lauderdale, that doesn’t scare us. The fish are already wet. However, we definitely do not want anyone feel that they have to get wet like the fish! See you guys soon!

Fishing Report: The weather here in SOUTH FLORIDA has returned to normal and our fishing is coming back in a big way. The record cold spell did some serious damage to snook on the Gulf coast and up along the Atlantic side north of Broward County where water temperatures dropped to record lows. Small to medium sized tarpon took a hit in Everglades National Park and the peacock bass populations along with many of the exotics that live in the freshwater canals in some areas were totally wiped out. The good news is that this has happened a few times before in recent memory and all of these fish managed to come back in a large way. Snook populations did very well in the Miami area due to many deepwater areas that the fish fled to escape the cold.
Tarpon moved offshore where they were safe. Bonefish took a big hit but the schools are large and have already returned to the shallow flats.
Peacock bass survived along with many exotics in the canals of Miami.
If you are looking for a fun fishing trip then you might want to join me on a fishing trip to SOUTH BISCAYNE BAY where the fishing has been almost nonstop. Mutton snappers have been coming over the rail by the dozens and though they are mostly under sized some have made it past the 16 inch required size to be kept and the fish that were just under sized were all caught on light tackle that put up a great fight. Gag, black and red groupers are out of season but that hasn’t stopped my clients from

Fishing Report: We had to cancel our first trip since fishing out of a World Cat. Around the middle of the month we had a Sunday charter and it had been blowing for a few days. I had a bad feeling and a restless night, so I finally crawled out of bed at 4 AM and turned on the PC to check current observations at our closest light house stations. OMG! Winds were blowing from the North at 30 with gust to 33 knots and the ambient temperature was 32 degrees. That equated to a wind chill factor of 22 degrees. At 5:15 the 5 AM readings came in and I saw 32 knots gusting to 36 with seas predicted to be 10 feet. I had to make a major decision since my people were from out of town. I called Todd’s cell phone and regretfully canceled the trip for everyone’s safety. It blew hard the rest of the day and was spitefully cold for Miami. All were thankful we weren’t out there! It has been a good blow ever since with only a few days of lighter winds mixed in.
My good customer Jon called on the 20th and set up for a mental health day on Monday the 25th. Sure enough, the winds started howling again as he hung up the phone. Wonderful, not again! The economy is bad enough without “Mother Nature” throwing a monkey wrench into the works. The night before the trip I was up most of the night checking Fowey Rocks conditions. At 5 AM we were looking at S winds @ 22-25 knot, so it was definitely fishable on The BEAST. Jon and his friend John (easy to remember their names) are good

Fishing Report: This has been one Great Week here on the St Johns River with my clients
catching 5 fish between 8 and 11 LBS.The fish are starting to move into the
spawning areas off the main river channel and this will continue through
the next three months. With all the cold weather we had at the beginning
of Jan the bass were a few weeks behind from last year to get the spawn
started. We have been catching all of our Trophy Bass the past 6 days
on Large Wild Shiners. Some days we have been getting 30 to 40 bites
and other days 15 to 25 bites but the great thing is most of these bites
are from the bigger females. The HighBanks area has been the most productive
for floating these Wild Shiners under grass mats.My clients today were
Bill Jr and father in-law Joe from NJ these guys had such a great trip with me
on Jan 21st that they had to come back one more time before heading back
to NJ this weekend. On the Jan 21st trip Joe was the big fish winner catching
a beautiful fish weighing just over 10 pounds. When we met this morning at the
ramp Bill was first to tell me he would be taking home the big fish honors
on this trip.Man was he right!! We got the boat set at the first grass patch
and the first shiner to enter the water was inhaled by a big fish and guess what
the shiner was on Bill's Rod.After a perfect hook set Bill was doing battle with
a big St Johns River Trophy

Fishing Report: Lady Pamela II Sportfishing Charters
Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Outlook January 2010
2010 definitely surprised South Florida with freezing temperatures and a killer bite offshore. Only the brave, die hards were on the water in search of the Atlantic Sailfish and it was well worth it with all the layers. During our unwelcomed, drawn out cold snap, the Sailfish bite was solid; herds of spindle beaks came through with double digit catches that made dreams come true. Every angler went home ecstatic with extremely sore arms, but a great story to tell about.
One morning, I remember one of our Canadian anglers say “this guy has on his survival gear.” As funny as that sounds, he was right. Fort Lauderdale’s unusually cold winter this year really got these fish feeding and we didn’t let the weather stop us from heading offshore to find ‘em. Foul weather gear, a pair of gloves and a beanie made life a lot warmer aboard the Lady Pamela II. Fishing is always an adventure.
Mixed in with the Sailfish are Kingfish and other species. The King Mackerel tend to show interest while live bait kite fishing, eating the goggle eyes that are suspended and intended for the Sailfish. The shipwrecks are also holding heavy with big fish that offer a great fight on light tackle; a 40 lb Amberjack will show you whose boss real quick. The

Fishing Report: The action on the St Johns River is UNREAL.The big fish are moving up
to spawn and things are heating up quickly. My client Darrell W from
Indiana had the trip of a lifetime today on the St Johns River catching
over 25 bass weighing up to 9.50 LBS.The fish started biting at daylight
and never stopped all day.It did take 4 dozen shiners to catch 25 bass
as many of these fish were smashing the shiners so hard it was tough
to get a hook into them.Darrell booked this 3 day trip a month ago
and told me all he was after was a fish over 7 pounds to break his
personal recored.I would say he got what he was after with this 9.50 Trophy
St Johns River Bass. This fish was released to fight another day and
Darrell will be having a Replica made by Bill Burns Taxidermy.
All fish caught today were on spawning flats just off the main river channel
in less then three ft of water.Wild Shiners were the bait of choice today.

Fishing Report: Ok, I have been saying let the water temps get into the 60's and watch out!!!
This morning we were greeted with water temps starting at 61.5 degrees
not great but much better then yesterdays 54 degree water..
I had Bill Jr Bill Sr and Father In law Dan in from NJ for a day of fishing.
The water temps were fine but our next problem was WIND at daybreak.
We had winds out of the SE at 15 to 25 MPH and gust to 35.
One of the great things about the St Johns River is you can always
get out of the wind.We headed north up River around the BlueSprings area
to fish some of the many fallen tree tops along the main River channel.
Things started out a little slow with a couple missed bites at the first stop
and the next couple stops resulted in the same manner missed fish.
(For those that think Shiner fishing is easy Think again}To catch these big
trophy bass from under floating grass is not real easy.Everything must work
perfect.Timing when to set the hook and knowing where that big fish is before
setting the hook is number one priority, then making sure every inch of slack
is taken up before setting the hook is second, third and most important is
SET THE HOOK AS HARD AS POSSIBLE!! After we went through this
routine about 10 times today we finally got it right and fish started coming
in the boat. These guys finished up the day like pros. With 10 minutes
left
