Fishing Report: Hernando Beach, FL.
Fishing is HOT… HOT … HOT .. with the cooler weather were getting. It seems fish love the cooler weather just like people do. The Redfish, Trout, Bluefish, Grouper and most species are actively on the move, looking for anything to eat. On a trip yesterday I caught a 26” & 27” Redfish on cut bait, with a high tide, I searched the grass flats in about 1 – 2 foot of water. In this shallow of water, I was able to site cast these fish. This is one of the most exciting ways to fish ( along with a topwater hit ) To see the fish, make a perfect cast, watch the fish come to the bait, take the bait and then the fight is on, is enough to make even the seasoned angle excited ! Don’t forget Oct. 5 th is when the crab traps will be dropped, this means thousands of chum will be just off the Nature Coast. I believe this brings many fish closer in, which means Grouper, mackerel, kingfish, cobia and sharks will be all over the nearshore areas. The cooler weather also makes it a lot more comfortable to be on the water, so get out and enjoy what most people only wish they could do.. fish Florida !

Fishing Report: Opportunity Fish
I would like to talk about what I call “Opportunity Fish” Many times when I’m targeting say redfish or trout, as I’m moving to and from my flats spots I come across an opportunity fish. What is a opportunity fish? This may be a cobia, shark, jack, snook or a school of mackerel or bluefish working a bait pod. On a recent charter off Homasassa, I saw in the distance what we call rain on the surface, this is when small baitfishes like glass minnows or pinfish are making the surface of the water look like its raining. This can be from them just moving around and or a predator fish stalking them. I slowed the boat down and already had a small spoon rigged up, I threw it beyond the “rain” and pulled it thru, on the first cast I hook up with a Spanish mackerel. What I recommend for this type of fishing is to always try to read the water, many times the water will tell a lot. Look for nervous water, which can be just a small difference in the ripple of the water to a big ripple or birds diving or “rain” on the surface or a school of jacks busting the surface .Also, try to always have a rod setup with a spoon or my favorite, a jig with a soft plastic lure or Gulp, it seems that almost all opportunity fish will hit a jig! This type of fishing can turn a slow day on the water to an exciting day.
Good luck on the water, Capt “Fishdaddy” Joel Gant

Fishing Report: Hernando Beach Gulf Grouper Report
A little rain does not seem to bother the Grouper! Plenty of Gag and Red grouper in the area. Dead Threadfin Herring and live Pinfish are both working well with great results. Extended Trips are producing big Red Snapper and 10+ Red Groupers.
Spanish Mackerel, Grunt, Mangrove Snapper, Sharks and Kingfish are abundant and fun to catch on light line . Large schools of bait are still moving north though our area, fishing continues to be very good.
See you on the water,

Fishing Report: When the sun goes down the weather cools off, and the cool breeze off the water definitely makes for a more comfortable fishing trip compared to the hot sun beating down on you.
Fished Okaloosa Island with a couple friends from 4pm until after 10pm. Hardtails on Gotchas, Cigar Minnows with sabiki rigs, and Bull Redfish on Carolina Rigs were the catches.
Before leaving for Okaloosa Island, we fished around some bayou docks in Destin and filled a bucket livewell with about a dozen pinfish. (Pinfish is a great live bait to use for Redfish here.)
Last time we went Redfishing this area they broke off around some pilings, so tonight we meant business... forget all this 12 & 17# light line & breaking off with it.... we took our Penn 850 with 30# line and tied on a 60# flouro leader with drag set pretty high. Hooked a live pinfish in the back with a circle hook and sent it down. When the first Bull Red hit that fish didn't go anywhere near a piling, LOL..... got it in the net & hoisted it up.... got a length measurement of 33 & 1/4" ... got a quick shot and sent him back in the water.
Afterwards the discussion came up as to whether it's better to use light lines for a tougher fight but risk getting cut off OR bigger gear with a shorter fight but have greater certainty of getting your fish in. It's all personal preference but I have to say I like getting to SEE and TOUCH our fish and not be left with a lot of "wondering"

Fishing Report: It’s been a great week of fishing aboard the Mega-Bite, especially with calm seas for the past 5 days days. I’ve put fishing the flats for trout on hold and have been out in the gulf searching for some nice red snappers. The gulf has been so flat, that you practically glide across the water to your fishing hole. I haven’t caught any monsters yet this year, but we have caught some good quality red snappers along with some stud black snappers. I’ve been fishing a few of my #’s from last year, and let me tell you they have been producing well. I’m very pleased with my new Cabo trolling reels; they have been great for snapper fishing. I purchased them for this year’s king fishing as well as snapper fishing. I wanted a rod and reel combo that could handle both king and snapper fish, and these combo’s are perfect. I’m using the Cabo 20’s and 16’s with 30lb mono on the 20’s and 20 lb mono on the 16’s. The drags on these reels are awesome; we turned a few fish that I didn’t think we would turn.
The king bite the past few days has been hit and miss on the wrecks. One day the bite is great, and you can put out a live cigar minnow and you’re on, but then the next day you can’t give a bait away. I have found that drifting baits out has resulted in more kings than trolling.
Although I have been booking a bunch of snapper trips, I did make it out to the flats a couple of days last week, and the trout bite was still very good. The bite ended around 9am for

Fishing Report: The weather is Hot and so is the fishing on the Nature Coast of Hernando County. Getting an earily start before the sun comes up too high is a good plan. Be sure to put on plenty of sun screen before you head out, I prefer Bullfrog, I spray it on before I leave and good for the day.
The trout, sea bass, mackerel, shark fishing in 8-10 feet of water has been really good. Set up a nice drift and bounce a jig with Gulp shrimp or pogy in the new penny or natural color and get ready for a hook up. With this type of fishing, you can fish and relax, enjoying the time on the water.
The redfish seem to be more active in the mornings, with a high tide, try working the back areas in the Chaz. Start casting with locator bait like a johnson gold spoon or even topwaters till you find fish, if they don't seem too aggressive try pin fish or cut bait. As anyone that has fished the Chaz areas, be very careful of the many prop bending rocks, if in doubt of the area, troll slow till you get comfortable with your surroundings.

Charter Boat Gulf Grouper Fishing Report
Location: Hernando Beach Florida, near Orlando, Disney, and Tampa
On land it may be raining. However off-shore in the Gulf of Mexico the weather and the fishing could not be better. Limits of grouper is an everyday occurrence with many Cobia, Kingfish, Mangrove Snapper, Sharks, and Grunts. All anglers on the Gulf Grouper are having a blast catching fish all-day. Check out the photos page on www.gulfgrouper.com to verify the results. Summer is on its way and the fishing forecast looks great. Plenty of fish under the boat all the time all year long. The secret to catching fish is to fish where the fish are.

Charter Boat Gulf Grouper Fishing Report
Location: Hernando Beach Florida, near Orlando, Disney, and Tampa
Year round Grouper fishing is always good somewhere off-shore from Hernando Beach. So when the Kingfish show up like they have lately it is a welcome treat. Fishing for Kingfish requires different techniques to ensure a productive outing on the water. Most anglers prefer chumming while using live scaled Sardines, Threadfin Herring, Blue Runners, and Shad. Live bait is an outstanding method to catch Kingfish and is very effective. Other methods are productive and enable an angler to go fishing without spending hours pursuing live bait. Lures like 3.5 spoons, inline jigs, stick baits trolled with a planner work well and can be used with little preparation first thing in the morning. Usually the most active big Kingfish bite is night and early morning hours. There are a multitude of methods that work well for Kingfish so come out to Hernando Beach and get your Kingfish with your Grouper.

Charter Boat Gulf Grouper Fishing Report
Location: Hernando Beach Fla, Grouper Country
Gag Groupers and Kingfish are making our trips allot of fun. Thanks to the abundance of Gag Grouper in the area we are experiencing non-stop fishing fun. The Kingfish are moving north and are west of Hernando Beach right now. We are having a ball catching Kingfish on dead bait and lures. The nice thing about catching Kingfish is once you find them they will eat a variety of lures and bait. Most of the time they are not picky!
Sharks are moving through also, we are catching them every day we go out. Some are bigger than others, all are tough fighters. Real exciting fishing this time of the year. Give me call and book a trip of a life time.

Fishing Report: Dust off your sunglasses and hook up the boat, because the wind has died down and the rain has finally let up. The next 7 days look to be great here on the panhandle. The water quality is still very murky, but that’s ok; the redfish don’t seem to care, as the bite has been on fire. I’ve been putting my new Quantum Boca reels to the test, and let me tell you, they are great reels. The drag system is top notch, and if any fish is going to test these reels, it’s going to be a redfish. The bite in the pass has been very good for sheepshead and black drum, with most of the fish around 5lbs, but we’ve hooked a few this year in the 8lb range. The redfish we’ve been hooking have been caught near the pass and on a few secret spots of mine. (Book a trip with me, and I’ll show you)! I’ve been hooking them on 1/4oz -1/2oz jig heads with 4” Berkley Gulp Alive New Penny Shrimp.
Last week, while we were red fishing, a large school of jacks showed up and the bait pods were jumping out of the water trying to get away from these voracious feeders. We managed to hook up a few, and they are great fun on light tackle. When a school of jack starts feeding, nothing survives, and if you get a bait or lure anywhere close to them, it’s fish on! Another fish that’s making a good showing is the black snapper on the jetties. We have a few jetties in Pensacola and all of them are holding black snapper. Even though these fish aren’t the biggest fish around, they are certainly at the top of
