Fishing Report: The artificial bite has been good the past week until yesterday when we
were trying to fish in 35 MPH winds. We have been catching some bedding
fish on the large flats off the main river near the HighBanks area.
Scattered pads with floating grass mats have been the key to catching
the larger bedding fish.A lite 1/16 rattle weight along with a Bitters
7.5 Junebug Bluetail Worm seems to be working the best.
We have also been catching come very nice schooling fish on main river
points and shellbeds.Topwater prop baits have been the top lure for
these schooling fish at daybreak. The Blue Springs area has been a great area
for the schooling fish the past week.I have April 20th 21st 22nd and 29th
open and I still have a lot of days in May open.April and May are great times
to catch Trophy Bass on the St Johns River.Take a look at the 2008 Trophy
Page at www.basschallenger.com to see last years results for April and May.

Fishing Report: After13 straight days of shiner fishing it was nice to have an artificial trip
today 2/19/2009. I met My clients from WIS at the dock at 6:45 am and we
headed out to a couple spawning areas that were protected from the 25 MPH
winds we woke up to this morning.Jim made a couple cast with a spinnerbait to
a patch of pads and had a big fish hit the spinnerbait a little short Jim
was quick to pick up a worm rod and fire it back to where this fish hit
and the fight was on, after a long battle I was lipping a beautiful 10.4 pound
Trophy. This fish put on quite a show as she came out of the water a number
of times shaking her head,What a great way to start the day and the
fishing stayed steady for the next five hrs at days end Jim's best five fish
went well over twenty five pounds.Bitters Junebug 7.5 worm did most of the
damage today but a few nice fish were also caught on a LongShank Spinnerbait.
This make's the 7TH fish over 10 pounds my clients have caught sense
January 4TH 2009 and I think the name Bass Fishing Capital Of The World
Still Holds True For The St Johns River.

Fishing Report: The past few days the water temps have been in the mid 60's which is the
ideal temp for Feb.The fishing results show this to be true.Mike Nichols
and Kent Sommers joined me for two days and the big fish were eager to
bite each day with Mike catching a beautiful 10.2 pounder on the second day.
Today I had Dave and Chris Blanton join me for a 6 hr trip and the fishing was
a little slower because of the cold front that moved through yesterday afternoon
but Dave did catch a great looking 8.8 pounder on the first shiner that hit the water. Both Dave and Chris had a shot at a Big St Johns River Trophy but total fish was
only 5 with about as many missed.Shallow water flats just off the main river are
the key areas to try the next month as these fish move up to spawn.I am booked
for the rest of Feb but I still have a lot of days open in March and that is my
favorite month of the year for catching these Trophy St Johns River Bass.

Fishing Report: 12/12/08
Took 2 charters on approaching cold front on Lake Toho Friday. On my first trip took Ted Sheppe and Lars Church old clients from Florida . We started out it was cloudy windy and looking like rain. Ted wanted to use shiners so we tried to find a sheltered area to anchor up where I had been catching a lot of fish but it was just too windy there. Having fished Toho for over 25 years I know that if the lake gets muddy it can be very tough fishing so I went to a spot that was out of the wind somewhat and it was a great move. We caught 14 fish up to 8 lbs. 6 of the fish were 5lbs. or larger. The first trip was ½ day so came in about 11:00 a.m. Had 2 very happy customers. My second client Robert Mantel from North Carolina was waiting at the dock when I got there. As you may know when a front come into Florida the weather can change from good to bad in a hurry and I was a little worried about catching fish that afternoon. Fish will hold to cover to cover tight or go to deeper water when the weather is changing in a cold front. Since lake Toho is a very shallow lake you need to go to heavy cover. Robert wanted to fish with some artificial and shiners both. The weather was changing from cloudy to partly cloudy to bright blue skies by the end of the trip. The second pat of the day Robert caught 11 fish the largest bass 4 lbs. 9 coming on rattle traps and soft plastic jerk baits. We had a surprise on a shiner as Robert caught a huge catfish that weighed

Fishing Report: 12/1/08
The fishing is excellent in the Orlando city lakes with the current cold weather. The fish are stacked like cordwood in deep holes and off points. In the last 4 trips have fished 3 different lakes with great success in all of them. Caught big fish and numbers both. Had a double trip 2 half day charters with artificial baits caught 42 fish. On another trip on the Butler Chain caught only 7 fish on shiners but they were all between 3-8lbs. Some fish looked like they were ready to spawn.
Great Fishing!

Fishing Report: Fall fishing is improving with the cooler temperatures and higher water levels. Most of my clients are catching between 30-50 bass a trip running between 2-5 lbs. with a occasional one in the 7-8lb. Range. The fish are schooling in the open water grass at where you can find a slight drop in 10-15 feet of water. You can catch them on crank baits, flukes and finesse worms with a split shot rig. After the fish go down let the bait fall toward the bottom we are catching larger fish. If you find running water 6 in. Carolina rigged curl tail worms are working well. The artificicial bite is better than live bait at this time but when water temperatures cool more the shiner fishing should improve.
Great Fishing,
Capt. Pete Matson

Fishing Report: The past few days we have had to deal with strong NE winds again but the fish
continue to feed all day long.Sunday was the slowest day with only 8 fish
on a 5 hr trip. The winds were so bad that we headed in 1 hr early and called it
a day.I had the day off yesterday but hit the water this morning with my very
good friend and client Micky B and his son Scott from SC.The morning bite
was a little slow but as the day went on these guys made a great day out
of a slow day as they caught 30 of there 45 fish in the last
two hrs of the trip.Scott was the big fish winner today catching a six pounder
on a C Rig.Flukes and C Rigged JuneBug Bitters Best Value 7.5 worms
were the key baits today.Points and shellbeds with 4 to 6 ft of water were the
best areas.

Fishing Report: The St Johns River is Red Hot!!!!!! The past few days has been the best late
summer early fall bass fishing you can ask for.The water is HIGH and the fish
are eating anything you wish to catch them on.Topwater/Spinner Baits/
Flukes/Texas Rigged Worms and weightless Senkos take your pick.
Lots of 4 and 5 pound fish being caught with a big fish here and their.
I was not sure when the Government would open the river back up
to boating because of the flood waters so I didn't book many trips for October
which in turn I have a lot of days open the rest of this month.Take a look at the
2008 Trophy page at www.basschallenger.com and see what fishing the
St Johns River also known as the BASS CAPITAL OF THE WORLD is all about.
We have two boats fishing some clients from Texas tomorrow and we are
breaking out the shiners rods.I will post a report tomorrow on the results.

Fishing Report: This is the busy season for Trophy Bass Fishing here in Orlando Florida and with guide trips runnning every day my clients are truly experiencing some phenominal bass fishing. The cold fronts that have been blowing through have not slowed the bite down as the females seem to be moving in daily to spawn.
There are still dates open in April if you would like to make a reservation. Your best chance at catching a trophy Bass would be in my boat so hopefully you will be there when the big one bites. In the meantime enjoy the photo of Louise from England with her first ever Trophy Bass From Orlando Florida. It is also the first bass she has ever caught!

Fishing Report: Puerto Vallarta fishing Report March 2nd
2008. Hey whats up everyone. We had a little
change of Weather these last couple days the
mornings are heating up again the water is
getting clearer and south of the bay is full of
action jack's, sierra's and red snapper, the
striped marlin and sailfish have headed north of
sellulyta which is great because last week we
had to go 7 miles west of the bank to find some
bill fish thats about 60 miles offshore. The
average size right now is 130 lbs still a hell of a
fight! We caught and tagged 11 striped marlins
last week we had to keep 3 because there
stomach's got tangled but these last couple days
have been great we saw about 60 of them
jumping around casted out and had a double
hook up with 2 120 pounder's beautiful fish! the
fishing is still good north of the bank a little bigger
in size averaging 130-180 lb striped marlins
sailfish, and also smaller 10-40 lb yellow fin tuna
and mahi mahi averaging 3-5 ft. all around the
fishing is great you can do a short day and get
lots of action a half a day and still get a billfish or
full day to the bank and catch bill fish and
something for dinner.

Fishing Report: Well its Jan 2007 and the weather is great as well as the fishing. 25 to 40 bass in a morning trip is fantastic and my clients are loveing it. Water temp 69 to 72, breezy out of the south and stain water to clear water have the girls thinking of looking for some bedding areas. holes in hydrilla in 2 to 3 ft is the trick. Come on down and have some fun as well as landing a trophy . From now to march is when it happens. Several trips in past 2 weeks have seen some 11 to 12 lb bass,

Fishing Report: Past week has been a blow as the winds howeled last Sat and again on Tues. really stired up the bottom, and set the spawn back, till things clear up some. All in All we still had a good week with some nice large bass by end of week. and water cleared. Big Gals are moveing in to their beds and with good weather for this comeing week it looks great. Live Bait or local Shinners fill the dinner plate as the Bass are feeding before going on Beds. Lots of buck bass around. Look for beds in shallow water and try your luck for that Trophy, she"s waiting to be caught.
Come on down and lets go fishing.
