GUATEMALA OFFSHORE REPORT FROM CAPT. EDGAR
After a nice Guatemala Winter that was full of surprises - with the Strike Zone and the Jacpot catching Dorado's, Marlins and Sails - we are preparing for the "High Season" in Guatemala that begins in October.
Sailfish Season starts in October and goes through
May 2010 and as Marlin Magazine cover page said - the
blue & black suit boys hit the Guatemala coasts too -making it the NEW hot place for Marlin as well.
Strike Zone was our first boat to start the season
fishing with our friends Jose Alonzo, Salatiel
Barragan, and Javier Rosales from Mexico this
past Tuesday and it was SWEET! We headed out
at 7 am from Marina Pez Vela as usual and by 8:15 the lines were in the water.
Imagine 7 straight hours fishing!!! WOW between
Dorado's and Sails our friends had a complete
workout. The total count was 6 sails and 15 dorado's - not a bad day at all....
Today was a nice day too - 5 Sails and 1 blue
around 250 pounds. The Marlin - really makes
the day worth it. Just looking at how fast they are and
how he hit the KONA was incredible. The
adrenaline was HIIIIIIIGHHHH!!! Sails were around

Venice,La~~~Last Saturday we had a 24 hr trip on the Stress Management with a group out of Mobile, Ala ...They wanted Tuna and they got Tuna.....the bite was on all night with the Blackfin....all you wanted ...The Blackfin were so thick that you could not get the bait to the Yellowfin. They did get three Yellowfin in the box.... It was non-stop action all night long. At one point they had a 400+ lb Mako eating their Blackfin as they were bringing them to the boat, but he not take the bait.
I have the 39' open for a day trip or a 24hr trip this Saturday/Sunday. The big 55' is sick at this point....She is at Seabrook getting a new engine and her yearly freshen up...Strike Zone Too will be back in Venice on Oct 1....You need to book her for a 24 hr luxury offshore trip in October.
Guatemala ~~~ We had our first trip today to start the season in Guatemala. The Strike Zone has been getting ready for this year's season and she had her debut today...With a group that had never been blue water fishing, it was a treat. Capt. Edgar, my partner said that the bite started at 9:00am and didn't stop until 2:00 pm. It was non-stop...They had 5 Sails and 16 Dorado's and were back at the marina at 3:00pm. They had a blast....Edgar has our private villa ready for this season with a new 60'' TV. One of the finest clubs in Central America has just opened and is five minutes from our villa. It is

Venice and Guatemala Fishing Reports from last week::::
Venice: over night trip last Sunday/Monday , they wanted to stay close and not make the 100 mile run so we did what everyone else has been doing lately ---which is getting a limit of nice Red Snapper, a limit of AJ's, a mix of Groupers, Kings , Blackfin Tuna and of course Sharks. The action was non stop but no Yellowfin... Capt. Kevin Aderholdt had a day trip on the 55' with a good group out of New Orleans. They did the same with some 15 to 20 lb Snapper and the biggest was 32 lbs. Still Blue Water is off the map....Capt Kevin is out now on the 55' for a 24 hr trip...he will run 100+ miles and I will get you that report later today.
Guatemala: As I reported last week on Saturday one of the boats had 30 Sails and 22 Dorado's. Capt Edgar had to make a fun trip after he got that report so on Monday he and some of his friend to off on the Strike Zone and ventured out 8 miles to catch 10 Sail's and 33 Dorado's....He was fired up....We have some spots open for our August and September trips so give us a call and get your group together and let us show you our fishing operation in Guatemala. It is FIRST CLASS from start to finish at a price you can afford.

Fishing Report: I would like to share this post with you and give you some update fishing reports on Louisiana and Guatemala::::::
Ryan Dicharry "GUATEMALA with STRIKE ZONE" Baton Rouge, LA USA
Just got back last week from a trip of a lifetime. We chartered a Guatemala sail fishing trip with Captain Gary "Strike Zone Charters". Gary had been talking to me for several months about how great Guatemala was. We decided to go see what all the fuss was about.
All I can say is WOW.
We were treated like kings. We had our own private villa, cook, driver, and cleaning crew. After a long day of fishing we would be greeted with cocktails and finger food as soon as we arrived at our villa. After a relaxing dip in the pool we were summoned for our elegant meal. While we were fishing our maid even cleaned and folded our dirty clothes. (If I could only get my wife to do that).
About the fishing....
We knew up front that it is the slowest time of the year for sails but we managed to catch and release three. This was better then any boat in the marina. Gary always said the the original "Strike zone" raises bill fish. Well he made me a believer. The dorado were non stop. We ended up with 32.
Also included it the package was a night at the Casa Santo domingo in Antigua, Guatemala. Let me tell you that experience alone was worth the price of the whole trip. This is a 5

Venice, La:::Strike Zone Too had two back to back 24 hr trips this week.. The first trip was a trip that we donated to the CCA on the North shore. Capt Kevin and Seth took the group out on a 24hr trip on Wednesday/Thursday not to find blue water 65 miles south of South Pass. They stopped on the way out and got a limit of 10 to 15 lb Red Snappers and went south...They got to the first floaters to find the water was a dirty green..and no fish. The 7 mile rigs were in cleaner water. They picked up and ran 10 more miles to the south to the next floater and called it their home for the night. They picked up a few Blackfin and a few Yellowfin....the biggest was 121 lbs. they had fished this rig last weekend and it was in blue water with very little current and had all the Blackfin and Yellowfin you wanted...Now the current was rushing and it was hard to get the bait to the fish. Over all it was a good trip but we have been getting spoiled on the amount and size of the Tuna. On Friday Capt. Kevin took my good friend Earl Dufrene and his clients on the Strike Zone Too for a 24hr trip. They had some other guests on board....Mike Lane and Gino to do some filming. It was Mike's second trip in a month with Strike Zone...first Guatemala and now to Green Canyon. Again I was not able to make the trip....But I knew Capt. Kevin would take good care of the crew....They departed Cypress Cove at 5:30 pm and started their 100

Two years in a row former Strike Zone Charter Captains win the biggest cash prize at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic. Last year it was Capt. Jason Buck and this year Capt. Mike Gordy. Both of these captains started out with me on the 40' Strike Zone many years ago. They are not only great fisherman but are super guys.
I would like to Congratulate Capt Mike Gordy and the crew of "Four Reel" for their big win in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Billfish Classic. Capt. Gordy's crew took home the biggest cash prize ($287,000)...NOT A BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE....
I did not get to fish the tournament...So I did the next best thing.....I took my 2 1/2 year old son, Christopher Thomas on his first overnight blue water fishing trip...of course his mother came along to make sure dad did everything right and to catch the fish. We also invited our neighbors Brent and Renata Mahana and their son Charlie. This was their first blue water fishing trip also.
Capt Kevin and Seth did the honors as we took the 55' Strike Zone Too down the river at 4:30 pm on Saturday. Trying to find out who was winning the tournament and cooking steaks going down the Mississippi River.
We got out of South Pass to Capt. Kevin's Red Snapper honey hole to find the snapper very hungry. My little man was doing good checking out the Red Snapper. After a short time the sun was

Fishing Report: April 6th saw Frank Vago and Les from Denmark make the long migration to the Guate fishing grounds for six days of fishing. The 28ft Super Panga “Que Vela” was able to oblige by raising 17 sails consistently over the day. Casting a fly and honing technique was the order of the first day. With so many sails willing to offer their services we ended up with 4 bites and a release.
The next day the boys decided to go conventional to get up
close and personal with more sails.
The action was at least 35 miles out so after a bit of a ride out we ran into some action. At the end of the day we ended up releasing 3, off of 7 bites, raising 9 all day.
The third day saw the winds pick up and create some chop. So we stayed a bit closer to shore and worked the western edge of the
Pocket to try to work something up from the depths in some greenish water. Also known as the “green water lottery”. Occasionally you win, but not this day. The sea flattened out around 1:00 so we picked up and ran out twelve more miles where we ran into a lot of birds working big schools of small bonitas. We let out the lines and were immediately rewarded with raising a double. There were so many birds it made one wonder if you were in an Alfred Hitchcock movie. After an hour and a half we had raised 7, had four bites and released 3 to save the day at the buzzer.
Day four we were back on the fly for Frank and Les would finess them in on some light

Fishing Report: All HELL BROKE LOSE in Venice and Guatemala when it came to the MARLIN BITE.....
Venice: After two back to back over night trips with the STRIKE ZONE TOO 55' we had six Blue Marlin on and only got one tagged....I guest it was the excitement. The fishing was great...The rips were not made up in the mornings and on some of the days they were great in the afternoon...We picked up 23 nice Bull Dolphin, the largest was 48 lbs and a few small Wahoo in the four days of fishing ...The night bite on Tuna was very good...The Blackfin were loaded up and the Yellowfin were hard to catch because the Blackfin and Barracudas' were thick....We did get over 21 in the two nights and the largest was 120 lbs.
Got to see and talk to lot of my good and dear captain/friends....Capt James Peters help one day with some live bait on his way back to the dock....Not lonely is he one of the best captains in Venice he is a great entertainer...He had me and my costumers on the floor of the flying bridge laughing....He was imitating one of the Captains and he was fun as hell .. Great Job Captain James....
Guatemala: I only had a short conversation with Capt. Edgar in Guatemala and all he had to say was that the Marlin bite for Blue and Black Marlin was ON...Capt Tyson on the Jacpot had a 700+ pounder yesterday....I will get a full report by Monday....I have some dates open in July for a fishing trip of a life
