Fishing Report: I did a solo trip today out of moriches. i found bait and ran to the inlet. in one drift fishing 2 rods I get one rod in a holder nailed by a big fish! I put my other rod in a holder and fought this nice fish to the boat. she kept ripping out line! Finally i forced her to the boat and gilled her into the boat. she was a nice fat 42"! I put her into the box and look at my other rod in the holder ripping out line! 2nd fish on on the same drift! I fought this fish to the boat and lipped it in. This one was a nice fat 34" bass. i was done in one drift! it took me longer to make bait then to fish today! lol.

Fishing Report: Lake Ontario king salmon have been turning on big time. Lake Ontario charters have been finding better numbers of salmon from the Salmon River north to Sandy Pond in 100-130' of water. Most the salmon are hitting on the deeper side 20-30' off the bottom. Flasher/fly combos have been working best but Stinger Mag spoons have also been taking fish.
We still have alot of afternoons open in August. Plenty of dates open in September for mornings or afternoon Lake Ontario charters, night trips at the river mouth or drift boat trips on the Salmon River. November steelhead drift boat dates are filling up quickly- get in on the fall chrome zone!
Thanks for checking us out!

Fishing Report: Salmon fishing on the eastern end of Lake Ontario has been improving. The king salmon are hanging in deep water due to water temps. We have been trolling 130'-170' of water off the Salmon River to Sandy Creek. Due to weeks on end of heavy west winds the cold water is tight to the bottom. Most hits are coming below 130' attractor - fly combos. Running green or white pro trolls close to the down rigger weight @ 2.5 down speed has been producing the best results. A few kings salmon have been hitting Mag stingers in alewife and die hard patterns.
It's just the begining folks! We have plenty of dates for July, August and September. We offer great 2 day package deals. Our rates are the most reasonable on Lake Ontario!

JULY 8th ....windy...no fishing
JULY 9th ... windy...no fishing
JULY 10th ..Full-day ..Michael Salzhauer, Todd Bassen and Ron Solars..Fly and Spin.
We fished from Michael's 27 foot Edgewater and headed out to the Gulls. We found Bluefish everywhere, on the surface and below ..... everyone hooked up.
We then moved a little north of Little Gull where Michael landed the first Striper measuring 24 inches. He then followed it up with another of about 10 lbs. Michael was "High Hook" with variety: two Stripers, a 4 lb. Porgie, a 23 inch Fluke and a dozen or so Bluefish all on the Fly.
Todd Bassen had a good day as well. Beside catching a bunch of Bluefish he also hooked up with two large Stripers that got away. We did get to see one of them, it had to be near 30 lbs. most likely lip hooked. He also landed a 5 foot long Sand Shark that took about 20 minute to get to the boat.
Ron Solars had a stella day! Lots of Bluefish and then a 14 lb. Striper and a 27 lb. Striper.
JULY 11th ...Morning ... Adam Bogomol and his dad Charlie ... Light Spin Tackle.
I headed out to the Gulls again with some live Eels. We didn't see any Bluefish along the way or at the Gulls when we arrived but

Fishing Report: Sorry about the late report but things have been busy. Started out Sat. morning 11/1 with the Rajendran party, four guys and two ladies. Left the dock about 06:15 for a full day. The water was a little choppy but the gals had no problem with that. One of the girls came from a family of commercial fisherman and it was great to hear her talk about her time on the water with them. Also I must add she made the best tasting sandwiches I’ve had in a long time, all in all it was great having them onboard. Well I wish I could tell you how great the fishing was BUT it was Slow. All I could show them for a full day was a few bluefish. I tried everything I could but it just wasn’t our day. The thing about it was, this crew never stopped having a good time. They saw we were working hard to find fish and not trying to save on fuel. They would be welcome on board again any time. As they were leaving the boat that afternoon they told me to call and let them know how we did on the night trip. I told Prem I would.
4:30 Sat 11/1. Left the dock for the night trip with Mike Lahti and Joe the lawyer. Still a little gun-shy from the day trip, I knew that one of the drops we made during the day would produce results. We had it all in our favor. Outgoing tide, great weather for the time of the year and plenty of coffee. Set up on the anchor at about 6:15 set four lines and got a chum slick going. Well that was all she wrought. Non-stop action all tide, we did about 35 to 40 fish in

Fishing Report: On Fri. the 24th we had the Lembo party on board. We started the day off Sandy Hook and the first fish to come aboard was a small keeper bass, then things slowed up as we were on the last of the out-gowning tide. We decided to take advantage of the slack water and ran south on the Jersey coast about seven miles and set up on a piece of ground that showed a ton of life on our screens. As it turned out we were mugged by large blues and sharks with one more bass in the box. The main problem of the day was the unavailability of bait (Bunker only able to net about thirty bait). Of course the sharks and blues made short work of that. At the end of the day everyone went home with fish and we had plenty of action.
Sat. 10/25.
Day and night trips canceled because of weather.
Sunday 10/26.
Well yesterdays blow brought in a new body of fish (bass). We left the dock with the Joseph party and decided to make our first drop on the Ambrose. Plenty of bait available today, we had non-stop action all tide with huge blues and bass up to 30 lbs. A great day for all on board. I think this will be the start of the larger fish showing up and they should be available into Dec. due to water temps dropping at a gradual pace.
Get in on the action. Open dates available. Give us a call for some good fall fishing.

Fishing Report: FISHING REPORT OCTOBER 17, 2008
CAPT. KEN RAFFERTY

This is that time of the year when you never know what the weather will do. But when you can get out, it's worth it!
SEPT 29th...Full-day...Dr. Mark Rubin and his father Dr. Bob Rubin...Fly and Spin.
Montauk is going nuts with fish, blitzes everywhere, north and south side. Trying to keep track was hard on this day but we do know Mark had three slams on the fly (Stripers, Albies and Blues) and many, many additional Stripers and Blues. Bob landed Blues and Stripers and lost two Albies.
OCT 1st...Late-day...2:30pm till 6:30pm Mark and Bob Rubin.
We couldn't count how many blitzes there were on the north side from the light house down to Shagwong pt. There were so many fish you didn't have to look for a blitz, all you had to do was cast and you would hook-up with fish that were on there way to join a blitz. This day both anglers had lots of Grand slams.
OCT 2nd...Northwest winds of 25 mph...No fishing.
OCT 3rd...Weather was still bad...No fishing.
OCT 4th...Morning...John DeMeritt...Spin Tackle.
The weather calmed down and we headed out to find more Stripers, Blues and Albies. John had at least six slams.
OCT 5th...Windy...No fishing.
OCT 6th...Windy...No fishing.

Fishing Report: King salmon are moving closer and closer towards the Salmon River. Lake Ontario charters have been producing decent catches on most trips. There's even a few salmon starting up the Salmon River each day. On the last few charters out on the lake we've been fishing 50-60' straight off the river mouth. Salmon have been biting glow spoons, J-plugs and spin dr/flies down 10-20' off the bottom.
Going slower was the the key today-2.2-2.4 gps speed. A lot of BIG salmon have been taken lately, including a NEW world record coho caught on a charter boat out of the Little Salmon River - a whopping 34 pounds!!! We've had plenty of good kings in the mid 20s to low 30 pound range. We have dates open for charters and drift boat trips- including Sept. 4,8,9,10,11,15,17,18

Fishing Report: Greetings. Snapper fishing is doing great on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. The best times to catch them is during High tide especially in the way back bays and canals. Many anglers are reporting plenty of snappers in the canals along the south shore as well. Basically, they are throughout the bay now and shouldn’t be too hard to find.
Quite a few reports have come from the Jones Beach Piers and from Wantagh Park with good snapper fishing. It seems that Spearing and small live Killies seem to be working the best. Also, Any small shiny lures like Kastmaster’s and Sidewinders will catch the snappers. Another great lure to use are the Fin Strike Snapper Poppers.
If you decide to fish with bait rigs, here is the skinny: the size 4 long shank Snapper Hook is a good way to go now. With the Snappers getting bigger by the day, they’ll soon be able to bite the smaller snapper hooks off. Our recommendation is to put the hook 18 to 24 inches below the float at least to start, then adjust the hook up or down depending on how they’re biting.
Thats all for now. Go get 'em and email us your pictures. Please visit causewaybaitandtackle.com/reports.asp for continuous reports for Long Island Fishing.
Happy Fishing!

Fishing Report: Greetings from Wantagh, NY. The snapper season has come on strong. We have been hearing many reports lately that the snappers are big enough to catch on bait and lures.
Many of our reports have been coming from some popular area's such as Wantagh Park, Bellmore Town Dock and Jones Beach Piers (Parking Field 10). Fishing around high tide seems to be the your best bet from from the shore. If you have a boat, you don't need to be picky with times. They seem to be all over.
The popular bait to use for these snappers are spearing and live killies (small). Be sure to use a float and put the snapper hook 18" to 24" below the float. To help you cast a little better, attach a sinker or use a weighted float. If you really want to catch them, we suggest you chum for the snappers. This is great for attracting snappers when fishing near the piers.
If you choose to go with lures, use anything small and shiny. This is going to get them but some of the staple Snapper lures are the small (1/8 and 1/4 ounce) Kastmatser’s, Krokodile’s and Side Winder’s and the ALWAYS faithfull Fin Strike Snapper Popper’s!
These baby Bluefish are only going to get bigger and bigger from here out, so be prepared with extra hooks, floats and lures because once they get a little larger they can use those TEETH!
We stock everything you need to catch these baby Blues. Stop by the shop or visit us at causewaybaitandtackle.com/prodtype.asp
