Fishing Report: Fished Winyah Bay and south jettys on 4-19-09
Caught 6 small redfish (1 keeper) and 1 15 inch flounder at jettys. All redfish caught on live mud miinows on rising tide.
Wind made it extremely difficult to detect strikes and many fish were lost. The water temperature was 65.
Flounder caught on imitation mud minnow on a jig head in the rocks at the jetty.

I was able to get within 6 feet of the shore line rocks and fish water up to 20 ft deep with crabs, blood worms and clams over some great structure. No fish were caught not even a bite. Lots of seals are still in the bay.It was nice to be on the water. Tight Lines ..

Fishing Report: The bluefish have made their presence known in the upper reaches of the bay, with daily reports of fish in the 10-15 pound range being reported.Striper fishing has slowed a bit, with the near 70 degree water temps the bass have begun to filter out of the upper bay towards the cooler, deeper waters to the south. The preferred bait is still the almighty pogie, either livelined or chunked, although topwater plugs have been effective for stripers in the shallows at night.

Fishing Report: Last week’s report continues to hold true for the moment, and we’re still waiting on the bigger fish to arrive in the Upper Bay and the schoolie fishing ocean side continues to be as good as it gets. Reports currently are that it’s still kind of muddy in the Upper Bay from the recent rains, with mostly small fish. Typically the big fish arrive as if they came through a portal though, so it could be any day now. Usually when they arrive they appear in big numbers, so there can be very little activity one day and a free for all of herring and bunker death the next day. More then a few anglers are out there waiting for that first blitz, but generally they’re going to keep it quiet when it begins. It’s fairly safe to say by next weekend that we can expect good fish on big bait in the Bay. The feel of the weather and by the calendar, it’s time.
Newport has seen some “big” schoolies, including several “keeper” size. The fish have been willing to take topwaters when the surf is up, and the topwaters have accounted for the biggest fish to date. A chartreuse needlefish and a yellow 1oz. Gibbs pencil have accounted for the larger fish. Swim shads and cocahoes are still responsible for the most quantity but can’t seem to keep up in terms of quality. They have spread out from the “first fish” spots, so if you want to get away from the crowd you should be able find your own fish. South County RI and points to East are all experiencing very similar fishing. Squid are here in force,

Fishing Report: Four of us, Chris R., Capt. Wickdaddy, Brother Brian, and myself launched out of Port Judith, RI after a 2 hour 40 minute commute from NH. The reports for the last few weeks have been sketchy at best. With few fish and even fewer big ones. We were going no matter what....
On the water by 7:15 and at the SW ledge by 8:20 after picking up the eels at Snug harbour marina we had lines in the water by 8:30 am. Capt Wickdaddy put us a nice peice of ledge right off and within a few minutes of drifting eels we had four hookups. Jack A. landed a nice 47", 36 lb striper and the rest of us landed three large blues. We had several other hookups at the same spot before moving SE toward Montauk LI.
After a couple more bluefish and some smaller bass ( 36", and 38") ole Capt Wickdaddy put us onto another nice peice of bottom. Within a few more minutes we were on another couple of bass (35", 40", 22lbs) and even a nice codfish. This was a first for me a cod caught on a drifting eel.
We ended a nice day with Brian landing a nice bluefish and a couple more smaller bass (31" and 34"). Well worth the five hours of driving time. We hope to get one more trip in this year. The weather for this trip was the key. Winds below 10 knts, seas 1-2 feet, water was very clear and small overcast.
Temps in the high fourties..........Just a beautiful thing.........
