Fishing Report: Flounder fishing Virginia Beach at Lesner Bridge in Lynnhaven Inlet. Drifting around the grassy beds looking to get hooked up to a nice flounder. We ended up catching quite a few nice size flounder in the 20 inch plus range.
We were fishing with gulp bait casting while drifting with run out tide. Water was a bit merky at around 10 feet deep in most spots.

The Sixth Annual Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shootout January 8th - 10th, 2009!
Virginia Beach, Virginia—Fishing Tournament for January 8 thru 10, 2009
The Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shootout began in 2004 - born out of a Virginia Beach fisherman's love for angling the shores of the Atlantic along the Virginia Beach oceanfront. It occurred to him, as it has to many, that not only are the waters off of Virginia Beach plentiful with fish, but they truly offer as good - if not better - fishing than anywhere on the East Coast. Proving it, would become the passion of the tournament director, Mike Standing. This passion has catapulted the Mid-Atlantic Rockfish Shootout to become the largest Rockfish tournament in the country, and has helped Virginia Beach garner its proper angling recognition.
As the reputation of the tournament has grown, so has the number of participants. In just three years, the tournament has increased its participation from 75 boats and approximately 375 anglers in 2003, to close to 150

Virginia Beach Striper Fishing
We are now fishing out of VA Beach and Long Creek through the middle of April 2006. Today, we had a put together trip (also known as a walk on trip) for 11 anglers. We actually had a few anglers who were scheduled to go that did not show up. Well, you guys really blew it! It was a beautiful day out there and the fish were really biting! T.J. Reiber served as 1st Mate today.
We targeted Fall Trophy Striped Bass (“Rockfish”) by trolling at False Cape, VA. We caught an incredible 26 keeper corpulent HAWGS from 31” up to 43 ½” (our limit including our 4 boat fish). We also released 4 undersized Rockfish. Oh man, what a day!
These are the top dogs for Virginia Beach Striper Fishing
Want to catch trophy striper? These Captains are the most successful striper charters in the area hands down. Climb aboard one of these boats and you will have a successful day of Virginia Beach striper fishing. And you very well could hook up to a trophy rockfish.

Fishing Report: Fishing inside rudee this weekend has been the best all fall to date.Sat. and Sunday Oct. 21 and 22.
Specks are in the hunt as well as puppy drum. Action was great using both grubs and cut bait on a float rig. Specks range in the 17 to 20in range. Puppy were right at the 18in limit but plenty of them.

Fishing Report: Today we did a charity trip to benefit The Cub Scouts organized by Ms. Tana Bentzel for a total of 15 anglers. Mr. David Bishop served as 1st Mate today (pictured on far left in group shot).
On a hunch, I tried a few different things today. We started off bottom fishing at Holland Point. We caught Jumbo Norfolk “Slab” Spot, some nice White Perch, and a few undersized Atlantic Croaker (“Hardhead”) - (all released). We kept the smallest of the Spot and the Perch alive and tried some live lining at one of my favorite “secret” spots at James Island and MAN, WHAT A BLAST!!! We caught our limit of 30 portly Striped Bass (“Rockfish”) plus our boat fish from 20” - 26” in a hurry!!! It was definitely worth the gamble as live lining is such a blast!!!

Fishing Report: Well, the weatherman blew it again today. We took a flier (one of my gut feelings that usually gets me in heaps of trouble) on today’s forecast after sitting on the wharf for 5 very long days waiting for a favorable weather window. The forecast was for some pretty tough conditions today. But we tried it anyway, as it was the best forecast in a long 5 days of anxious waiting on the wharf. It was a GREAT decision to go today. For me, judging and predicting Winter and early Spring Atlantic Ocean conditions are a constant high wire balancing act between the need for safety (which is primary) and the desire to search for weather windows of adventure and good fishing. Sometimes, here in the cold and windy Winter Atlantic Ocean, you just have your gut feelings and instincts in which to base a decision. Every year of experience you get a little better at this. Maybe by the time I’m 70, I’ll have it down pat!
Today, the weather and sea conditions turned out to be very fishable, despite the poor forecast. In fact, by the time for the ride back to the wharf, the Atlantic Ocean seas were slick calm (pronounced “cam”). It just worked out today, that’s all. Sometimes it doesn’t work out and you get your butt handed to you by the cold, angry Atlantic Ocean. Today I looked like a hero for following my gut, but I’ve had plenty of days when the crew is all yakking, miserable, wishing they hadn’t gone, and ready to make me walk the plank in mutiny. “Some days a hero, some

Fishing Report:

One of the most exciting elements of long range deep drop wreck fishing is the anticipation and mystery of exactly what creature will be pulled up from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean on your next fish caught. How about a fish with feet? Yup, happened today. How about a world record? Yup, happened today. How about two species of fish the likes of which have never been seen before in the long storied history of the Jil Carrie? Yup, happened today. How about our first in a species for the year? Yup, happened today. How about Capt. Croakerhead hitting the 100 million lottery? Well, nope, very unfortunately, that great event DID NOT happen today, but, incredibly, everything else listed (and more) DID happen today.
Today featured moderate March temperatures and, at times, dense fog. It was a fair sea for most of the day but it did get a bit choppy on the way back in the late afternoon and early evening. As we got closer to shore conditions improved because it was a SW

Fishing Report: Cape Henry at Virginia Beach has had a phenominal winter season for ocean striped bass. Last week I fished alone one day and trolled through a small group of birds, pulling six lures on four rods. I hooked up on all four rods and landed FIVE stripers, 36-41".
By the time I had the mess straight, I had gotten off the fish, and could not easily relocate them. As we are allowed only two stripers, I was limited out anyway and supressed the desire to go for a REALLY BIG one. Yesterday we took only one striper aboard the "Therapy", but it was a 40 incher.
We broke off another and pulled hooks on one. I do not charter fish anymore, but Captain David Wright aboard "High Hopes" does and he can set you up with some of this great action. Call 757-286-3842 for more info.

Fishing Report: Virginia Beach wreck fishing for sea bass
We are now fishing out of VA Beach from the Long Creek and Lynnhaven Inlet through the middle of April 2006. Today, we welcomed a put together group (a/k/a “walk on” trip) including Mr. Moe Moore of Midlothian, VA, Mr. George Williams of Dale City, VA, Mr. Mark Pierce of Courtland, VA, Mr. David Lowe of Sedley, VA, Mr. Martin Freed of Fairbanks, Alaska, Capt. Steve “The Sea Bass Slayer” Wray (a/k/a “The Professor”), the gang from David’s Custom Cabinets, Inc. of Franklin, VA, and others for a total of 10 customers.
We had a total of 12 on the boat including yours truly and our 1st Mate for the day - TJ Reiber. We had 2 no shows/no calls which REALLY aggravated me because I turned several people away for this trip because we were at our full complement of people. Guys - please show me the courtesy of a phone call if you’re not going to show up. You know who you are, so I won’t call you out here, but others are waiting to go in your place! Mr. Freed is an outdoors writer who is doing an article and a book which will cover today’s trip.
It was a smooth ride out to the wrecks, with slick calm (pronounced “cam”) seas, light winds, moderate air temperatures in the low 60’s, and a star filled deep black sky. We started catching as soon as we hit the wrecks and continued to catch all morning long. We caught our limit of an impressive array of 300 portly

Fishing Report: Virginia Wreck Fishing for Sea Bass
We are now fishing out of VA Beach from Long Creek in Lynnhaven Inlet through the middle of April 2006. Today, we welcomed a put together group (a/k/a “walk on” trip) including Mr. Jim “Lead Rod“ Boland, Jr. of Sterling, VA, Mr. Jon Hughes of Washington, D.C., Mr. E. Charles Henderson of Laurel, MD, Mr. Aaron Hughes of Seabrook, MD and others for a total of 8 customers. We were scheduled for 13 anglers, but 5 decided not to go because of the windy conditions. We had a total of 10 on the boat including yours truly and our 1st Mate for the day - TJ Reiber.
We met at the 0200 designated time and I sent everybody back to their cars for some nappin’ and we agreed to meet again at 0400. I think everyone returned again at 0400 except for one guy who packed it in. At 0400 it was still too windy, so we agreed to reconvene again at 0600. A window of opportunity opened as the winds dropped out below 20 knots and we finally departed the wharf at 0600. 10 anxious, but hearty and dedicated souls headed out aboard the Jil Carrie hoping for some good luck and some moderating wind and sea conditions. It was a long, bumpy ride out, but we were greatly rewarded for our tenacity with yet another excellent day of deep drop long range Atlantic Ocean wreck fishing. This was definitely an EXTREME Atlantic Ocean trip today as we really earned our fish!
We struggled against

Fishing Report: Virginia Beach Wreck Fishing Reports
We are now fishing out of VA Beach from Lynnhaven Inlet through the middle of April 2006. Today, we welcomed a put together group (a/k/a “walk on” trip) including many of VA’s finest fishermen including Jamal Esfahani, Craig Stallings, John Elmadani, Steve Mechling, Mr. Charles “The Codfather” Randolph, Capt. Steve “Sea Bass Slayer” (a/k/a “The Professor”) Wray, and others. We had a total of 15 on the boat (including yours truly and our 1st Mate for the day - TJ Reiber).
Today was another good day of deep drop/long range Atlantic Ocean wreck fishing. We fished 2 wrecks today. We caught our limit of 25 Black Sea Bass per man and also released quite a few smaller BSB’s. Although the Black Sea Bass were not as big as our trip on 1/11/06, 3 VA weight Citations were caught (2 by The Professor and 1 by an angler who dropped it back overboard - “no names mentioned”). We also caught a few Hake (our first of the year), one Cod (caught by “The Codfather”), several Winter Runner Bluefish, 2 Blueline Tilefish, an armada of grotesque Conger Eels, Cunners (all released), and one bazillion Dawg Sharks (all released).
Capt. Steve “The Sea Bass Slayer” (a/k/a “The Professor”) Wray with his first VA weight Citation Black Sea Bass of the day on the 1st wreck - a 5 pound 2 ouncer.
Here’s a nice sea bass
