Fishing Report:   April 29, 2005

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - There are still a few snook being caught around the bridges as well as some spanish mackerel and jacks. The trout bite remains steady in 2 to 4 feet of water. The snapper are moving in along the channel edges and are feeding on live shrimp. Out of the Sebastian Inlet try your luck at bottom fishing in 60 to 90 feet of water for snapper and grouper. A few dolphin were reported in around the 300 foot mark and the spainsh mackerel and bluefish are along the beaches.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - The trout action early in the morning is good and you may even pick up a snook or redfish while fishing on your favorite flats. Plenty of sheepshead are being reported coming from around just about any structure and the bigger snapper are moving to the channel edges. Snook fishing is still on the slow side but should pick up as the weather gets better. Offshore the dolphin fishing has improved when the seas are nice. The dolphin were reported in 400 feet of water to the southeast of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The snapper and grouper bite remains steady in 90 to 125 feet of water and still some kingfish around the 60 to 90 foot mark.

MARTIN COUNTY - Lots of action in the river right now with plenty of jacks, ladyfish and sheepshead along the channel edges. For trout you may want to try the flats just north of the Jensen Beach Causeway. The snook have been around the bridges and the night bite has been the best. Offshore try the Six and Eight Mile Reefs for sea bass, snapper and a grouper or two. Reports of a few sailfish around 100 feet of water and the kings are still way south of the St. Lucie Inlet in 30 to 60 feet of water.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - The bass action remains strong around the Big Lake when using live shiners which have been taking most of the bigger fish. There are still a few specks being caught in the River at night and the blue gills are starting to bite around the Rim Canal.

TEEN ANGLERS - The championship tournament for the Teen Anglers of the Year from the Middle and High School divisions will be held this Sunday, May 1st at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. The top five teens from the middle and high schools will compete for the top honors. If you would like more info on teen anglers just go to the web at www.teenanglers.org.
