Fishing Report: what a crazy rainy week, 5/22 - 5/27. point ellis lost a few lengths of road and other real estate to the unrelenting high high tides, but the fishing in the saco was great if you didn't mind raingear and rubber boots. besides the dead minky whale i tried to pull from the river at the beginning of the jetty, the stripers were thick. as the days progressed the size of the fish got greater. earlier in the week every cast was producing bites and 12" to 20" fish. by thursday, every cast was producing bites, but every critter at the end of the line was 19" to 29", and on a few hooksets the 30# flourocarbon leaders disappeared at the swivel leaving the knot. there are some "big" stripes out there. sandworms and owner #5 circle hooks were the bait d'jour, and all but one hookup was the mouth. those circles are easy on the fish. keep your hooks sharp! |
