Fishing Report:   June 17, 2005

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Inshore there has been a lot of trout being reported from the area by the Sebastian Inlet and to the South. There are still some redfish around Hells Gate and the Dome. Good reports of snapper action around the local bridges and along the channel edges. Live shrimp have been the best bait to use.

Offshore look for kingfish along the beaches. The tarpon as also starting to show up on the beaches. The dolphin bite has picked up some. The best place should be between 140 and 180 feet of water to the south of the Sebastian Inlet. Bottom fishing has been good for snapper, grouper and plenty of black sea bass.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - There is still a lot of dirty water on the out going tide but the water does clear up on the incoming tide and making fishing better. Plenty of trout in the 2 to 4 pound range and they have been feeding on live pigfish. The snapper are showing up along the channel edges in good numbers and taking small live shrimp. There has been a few flounder reported coming from in the Turning Basin. The catch and release snook action remains steady in Taylor Creek.

Offshore the dolphin are back feeding with some fish to 40 pounds being reported in 160 to 180 feet of water to the north of the ft. Pierce Inlet. look along the beach for the big kings and the tarpon are also starting to make an appearance. Bottom fishing has produced a lot of sea bass, snapper, grouper and a cobia or two.

MARTIN COUNTY - Look for the black drum around the bridges along with a good number of sheepshead, snapper and a few catch and release snook. The trout bite has been like everywhere else, find some clear water and you will catch a trout. There have been steady reports of tarpon at Big Mud Creek at daylight. There were a couple of reports of tripletail to the south of the power lines at the Nuclear Power Plant.

Offshore there are still some nice size sailfish being reported from anglers fishing for dolphin in 120 to 200 feet of water. The kingfish are in 30 to 70 feet of water. On Tuesday a few wahoo were reported in 185 feet of water to the south of the St. Lucie Inlet. One wahoo was over 50 pounds.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - There has been plenty of bluegills around the canals. The bass fishing has slowed some due to all of the water. Look for fishing to improve as the water level gets back to normal.

BRAGGING BOARD - On Wednesday John Massarell, Donald Wright Sr. and Donald Wright Jr. were fishing 18 miles northeast of the Sebastain Inlet when they got into a school of yellowtail snapper. They had snapper to 15 inches and also 2 red grouper and a lot of black sea bass.
