Fishing Report: On an absolutely picture perfect weather and slick calm (“pronounced “cam”) Saturday in June, the Weekend Warriors and unwashed masses were out in full force – no surprise. On our vessel, 19 anglers assembled at 0530 to ply the Chesapeake’s waters in search of the almighty fish. This trip was a group from Tidalfish.com organized by Mike Burgess. We were unable to shove off until 0600, however, because of one tardy TFer (his initials were MB but we won’t mention any names). The TFers in attendance were Mike Burgess, Gerald, a
positively svelte Graybeard, Jim H, Andy, Beth, Sam, Larry Freed, the immortal Chumbucket, Hammer, Liz Fish, and always funny, especially with his LONG jokes - BrianC. It was really good to see these folks as it’s been a long time! There
were others that I missed their names. I’m sure I’m going to get corrected on several fronts with this report, but here goes…
We spent most of the day light spinning tackle jigging and bottom fishing which was very productive on White Perch, Norfolk Spot, and one Bazillion undersized Striped Bass (“Rockfish”) (all released). We also caught about one dozen
Cownose Rays (which we could have done without) (all released). We spent a few hours chumming. It was very slow as we only caught 5 keepers from 18.75 inches up to 23 inches and released 2 undersized Rockfish.
Liz Fish won the prize for largest fish other than a Rockfish for a beautiful 11.25” White Perch and Mike Burgess won largest Rockfish for a 23 inch Rockfish. Mike will say it was 25 inches
by now! I was a bit disappointed in that Graybeard did not hork, so the Graybeard Horking Pool rolled over to the big fish jackpot.
