Fishing Report: Its been a while since I posted a fishing report. Between a disasterous trip to the Keys (horrible weather fueled by Trpoical Storm Arlene) and charters every day there just hasn't been enough time in the day to catch up. Here goes
Several overpressured schools of bull reds have attracted anglers and boaters from what seems like everywhere. In years past one such school in the Indian River was rarely fished, and now you would swear that it is the only school of bull reds in the entire Indian River Lagoon system.
Thankfully, over the past eight days, my anglers have enjoyed solitude while sightfishing the bull redfish on Mosquito Lagoon and S. Indian River because we have fished where people never do...

The hilite of the week was when Sonny Shaffer of West Palm Beach caught a tagged redfish that approached 39" in length. Tagged reds are not such an uncommon thing in the IRL and ML, but what made this one unique was that I tagged this fish back in 1999.
At that time I used one my personal tags when one of my anglers caught the fish near Bird Island in the Mosquito Lagoon. In March 1999, the fish was almost 27" in length.
Some six years later, this fish has obviously grown up and joined other fish of the same size. The fish was caught this week in the IRL, many miles from Bird Island. The tag was left in the redfish and safely released.
Dock fishing for snook has been pretty good as well for spin and fly anglers willing to pick away in the shadows and mangroves. We saw some snook this past week approaching the 15-pound mark laid up in the mid-day shade of residential docks in the Indian River. Most were in the 22" range.
