Fishing Report: June 24, 2005
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - The trout fishing has been good around the Moorings Flats all the way to the Sebastian Inlet. Find some clean water in about 3 to 5 feet and put down a pigfish. There are still some redfish being reported around the spoil islands to the south of the Seventeenth Street Bridge.
The bottom fishing offshore has been good in 70 to 90 feet of water to the north of the Sebastian Inlet. Live baits have been the way to go. There is still a good number of dolphin to 25 pounds and also a few scattered sailfish being reported. The kingfish have worked their way onto the beaches and are taking live baits. Try the area at the Vero Cove.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Inshore the catch and release snook have been up in Taylor Creek with fish to 25 pounds being reported. The trout bite has been steady early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Top water baits or a live pigfish have been producing the most fish. A good number of flounder were reported coming from the docks along the Ft. Pierce Inlet.
There has been a lot of sailfish reported this week -- both catch and release and free jumping. The dolphin have been scattered in 120 to 180 feet of water. There has been plenty of kingfish in the 30 to 70 foot range along with a few nice sized cobia. There has been plenty of snapper, grouper and black sea bass coming from the Northeast Grounds.
MARTIN COUNTY - Inshore the reports have been of snapper, black drum and even a few croakers around the local bridges. There were plenty of big jacks around and a few tarpon have been showing up in the St. Lucie River at daylight.
Action along the Six and Eight Mile Reefs has been steady with a mix of dolphin, kingfish and even a cobia. And like the rest of the Treasure Coast there has been plenty of free jumping sailfish and also a few catch and releases. The bottom fishing has also been good for snapper and sea bass.
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - With the full moon almost here the panfish will be feeding along the river edges and in the canals. Look for bass around the Monkey Box and at Fire Island.
BRAGGING BOARD - 11 year old Jessie Lawson of Daytona Beach caught and released her 1st sailfish while fishing in 100 feet of water out of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The fish weighed approximately 50 pounds and took Jessie 30 minutes to bring the fish to the boat.
