Fishing Report: WARM WATER MOVES IN WITH FISH THEN MOVES OUT ! - WEEKLY PHOTO GALLERY - FLYFISHING/ LIGHT TACKLE EVENT - HUGE ROOSTERFISH PHOTO
FISH FINALLY KICK IN THEN COOL WATER CHILLS THE BITE...SOMEWHAT!
Thought we were finally cranked and tuned into the summer fishing. It was like clock work. I saw the satellite photos around La Paz and waters jumped into the low 80's and bam...the dorado finallly went off as did marlin and wahoo. Early in the week, lots of schoolie doradl and a handful of bulls were all over the baits. Then, late in the week, the warm water moved away from La Paz and back over to Cerralvo Island and the dorado bite petered out, but picked up instead around Las Arenas which remained a good spot for big roosterfish, striped marlin, pargo, amberjack, some African pompano, occasional wahoo and even some yellowfin tuna. It was definitely a good week for huge roosters with quite a few fish released in the 20, 30, 40, 50 and larger categories and several scaled that could not be released in the 60, 70 and even a 90 pounder.
We seem to have found a spot of tuna, but the captains are purposely not talking about it on the radio because too many of the East Cape boats listen on the same channels and would jam up to bogart the spots. It's not a big bite, but it's promising with a few fish in the 20-30 pound class and some larger fish starting to pop up. I"ll just tell you that it's on the Las Arenas side. Additionally, with the warmer water moving towards Cerralvo, some of the buoys off Perrico are also starting to show some life. Hard to know which of dozens of buoys are holding, but some have given up some decent dorado and sails are also showing. Again...nothing spectacular, but promising. Best fun has been the numerous pargo still biting. They shouldn't be as this is very late in the season, but goes to show that we still are having spring-like condition.
Tackle Tip...If you're coming down this week, take the wire off your Rapalas and Marauders! They get bit better by the wahoo!
