Fishing Report: One fine saturday in duxburry/ plymouth/ kingston harbor..the schoolie striper bite died out as it does evrey morning when the sun gets high...we weren't producing any fish.
I decided to throw out a few pieces of mackerel while we were drifting over a hot hole I knew of....
To my surprise one rod went heavy...slowly reeling it in I figured it was a crab or lobster so I didn't want it to let go....just to keep it for fun and bragging rights....as the line got closer to the boat it got heavier...and then a thump thump!!...
To my surprise as well as my brothers.. I pulled in a 9-10 pound doormat fluke...she ate a mackrel head, the whole thing!!!!
I knever thought that would happen....so as you could guess..out came the fluke rigs and strips of mackrel belly meat...we made several more drifts quietly over the hole..as to not alert anyone else that I found by luck a school of doormats...we had plenty for dinner after that...
So don't give up folks..try anything I learned my lesson..fish eat fish so when the action slows down try drifting some cut bait..I bet you will be surprised! |
