SALTWATER FISHING TRENDS:
South Carolina Fishing Pier Reports
PIERS:
Cherry Grove Pier: Open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, 7 am to 2 am on Friday and Saturday. Flounder, sheepshead fishing is good using shrimp and bloodworms.
Apache Pier (Myrtle Beach North): Pier and bait Shop open 6 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. seven days a week. Flounder has been hitting with mullet. Black drum, caught on shrimp (5.25 lbs caught). Sheepshead are hitting sand fleas (7.8 lbs caught).
Springmaid Pier (Myrtle Beach): Pier is open 6 a.m. to midnight seven days a week, year-round. Tackle shop open 6 a.m. to 11 pm. Flounder are biting well with cigar minnows. Croakers are hitting shrimp. For Bluefish try shrimp. Two King Mackerel were caught on live bait (two reeled in at 23 lbs & 19.07 lbs.)
Myrtle Beach State Park Pier (Myrtle Beach South): Open 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., 7 days a week. Poor fishing lately, but some large flounder (one at 5lbs) were caught on mud minnows.
Surfside Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. Slowing down but some flounder caught on minnows with whiting caught on shrimp. Spots are doing fairly well with bloodworms. A few Spanish Mackerel with bare gold hook.
The Pier at Garden City: Open 24 hours a day for fishing. Slow but a few whiting are being caught on shrimp, black drum and pinfish on shrimp and bloodworms. Shark and skate are also fair with shrimp and bloodworms. Spanish Mackerel are being caught on Spanish rigs and jigging.
Winyah Bay Fishing and Observation Pier (Georgetown): Open 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, with free parking and fishing. Visitors also enjoy great bird watching. A Freshwater Fishing License is required due to brackish water. Coming soon, a second fishing pier on Winyah Bay. Improving. Flounder doing fairly well with mud minnows and cut bait.
Folly Beach Pier: Open 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. April through October. King Mackerel doing well mostly on afternoons and on higher tide with menhaden. Spanish has also been caught with live bait. Spotted sea trout is doing well with shrimp. Curiously absent this time of year have been black drum, sheepshead and flounder.
Hunting Island State Park Fishing Pier: Pier is open 24 hours a day. The Nature Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 7 days a week. Not many folks have been fishing lately, but whiting has been doing well with shrimp and several string rays are being pulled in with shrimp and squid |
