Fort Pierce Fishing Charter Boat Captain Joe Wards Indian River Lagoon Fishing Reports

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Inshore the trout action has been good when fishing early in the morning and in 3 to 4 feet of water. The redfish bite has been good up around the Sebastian area. The tarpon have been active around the Moorings but have been picky as to what they will feed on. Still plenty of snapper and sheepshead along the channel edges and around the bridges. Offshore the best is to find the bait schools and you will find the fish. The kingfish and dolphin have been scattered and are following the bait. The bottom fishing for snapper and grouper has been good over the reefs and wrecks. A few nice cobia were reported in 50 feet of water.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Inshore the catch and release snook have been all over the flats early in the morning and they have been following the bait. The trout action has been good when you were using a live pigfish. There has been plenty of snapper along the channel edges but finding shrimp to fish with has been the problem. The tarpon are working around the Big Mud Creek area at first light. Offshore it looks like 60 to 90 feet of water is a good place to start trolling with reports of scattered dolphin, sailfish and kingfish in that area. Still a few cobia around in 50 to 100 feet of water. Bottom fishing remains good to the north of the Ft. Pierce Inlet. The hot spot this past week has been the Boils with plenty of catch and release snook and a lot of permit action. Several snook were well over the slot and the permit went to 30 pounds.

MARTIN COUNTY - Inshore look for lots of big jacks, ladyfish and a few catch and release snook around the St. Lucie Inlet. The best spot for sheepshead, snapper and even a trout or two seems to be around the Jensen Beach Causeway. The trout fishing from the bridge to the powerline's has been good in the pockets of clear water -- when you can find them. Offshore it looks like the bottom fishing is the way to go with good reports of snapper, grouper, cobia and sea bass starting in 70 feet of water. The dolphin and sailfish have been scattered and not a lot being reported. Their has been some nice kings along the beaches in 30 to 50 feet of water to the north of the St. Lucie Inlet.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - Bass fishing has been good with the best bait being wild shiners, second try a spinner bait or a plastic worm. The bream fishing remains good around the edges of the weeds and along the river banks. Just look for flowing water.

BRAGGING BOARD - Frank Purcell of Ft. Pierce caught and released an 88 inch sailfish while fishing east of the Ft. Pierce Inlet in 150 feet of water. Frank was trolling a naked ballyhoo. David Adams,Jr., of Ft. Pierce won the MinnKota award while fishing in the Addictive Fishing's Mogan Mania IV in Ft. Pierce last Saturday. David had a very nice trout.
