Fishing Report: MASSACHUSETTS: "At Surfland Bait and Tackle on Plum Island, Martha Moulton tells about the exciting catch one of her fishermen had made Friday, while fly fishing for schoolie bluefin tuna offshore. "They drifted in close enough to the school of busting fish to be able to toss teaser lures out and try to entice a fish to follow. When one did, a long cast with a big wet fly brought a smashing hit. It took six hours of very patient playing and a lot of chasing the fish with the boat to finally land this fish that weighed over 80 pounds!"
"Our fishing inside has been mostly for smallish schoolie stripers. The bluefish have been all along the shoreline at high tide at sunrise. Some of the boat guys are doing well offshore on big stripers and some bluefish. We had reports of good flounder fishing earlier last week and one fluke had been reported."
Martha had fished the flats last night with live eels until one a.m., landing several stripers that included three keeper-sized fish and also a ten-pound bluefish.
At Fishing FINatics in Everett, Pete Santini report is as follows: "Bass (stripers) have moved back onto Faun Bar. Red and Honey Mustard Santini Tube-n-Worm rigs fished on three to four colors of leadcore line. Aaron Vierra had a great day fishing off the B Buoy, with one striper that went 42 inches and a bunch of bluefish in the ten-pound range--all on a honey mustard Santini. There's some fluke in at the Pines and Saugus Rivers Point of Pines. Best bait for them is squid strips or live shiners. Our friend Ed Mancini hit a 75-pound schoolie tuna, his first one ever, taken on a surface popper and spinning gear while onboard the boat Ouzo. Stripers are hitting behind the Burger King and Costco at the mouth of the Mystic River. Chunk mackerel or herring has been best. The schoolie tuna have been in the triangle formed by the BF Buoy, to the North Corner of Stellwagon, back to Tilley's. Best luck has been on high speed, small squid spreader bars trolled." |
