Fishing Report:   August 5, 2005

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - The bite on the flats has been OK but not great with trout, snook and redfish action just after daylight on topwater baits. The most productive places have been the flats at the Moorings, the flats just south of the Seventeenth Street Bridge and up around the Sebastian Inlet. The snapper are active around the bridges and along the channel edges and live shrimp have been their bait of choice. Offshore the kingfish and dolphin are moving everyday. There has been catches for anglers lucky enough to find bait then find the fish. The bottom fishing for snapper and grouper has been good in 90 to 120 feet of water. There has been a good number of reports of tarpon on the beaches.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Inshore you may want to try your luck for flounder around the Turning Basin and the South Bridge and use a live shrimp. The trout and catch and release snook action has been good around the Midway Road area as well as around Harbor Branch. Plenty of snapper along the channel edges, both to the north and south of the bridges. Offshore, again the kings are in 30 to 50 feet of water as well as some nice cobia. The problem has been finding live bait and then if you do it is fighting off the cuda's. Bottom fishing for black seabass, snapper and trigger fish has been good on the Offshore Bar in 90 feet of water.

MARTIN COUNTY - Inshore look for the trout and redfish on the west side of the river just to the north of the Jensen Beach Causeway in 2 to 3 feet of water and feeding on live shrimp early in the morning. A couple of tripletail were reported south of the power lines of the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant. Snapper, sheepshead and ladyfish are along the channel edges. The black drum are active around the local bridges. The catch and release snook, big jacks and small tarpon are around the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. Offshore it still looks like bottom fishing is the way to go with reports of snapper, grouper, seabass and even a cobia or two along the Eight Mile Reef. Still a few reports of sailfish to the north of the St. Lucie Inlet. Plenty of kings along the beach in 30 to 60 feet of water.

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - Not much change over at the big lake with the bass continuing to feed around the clear water on live shiners, soft plastic baits and twitch baits. The panfish are in the Rim Canal as well as the Kissimmee River. Try using crickets or worms.
