Fishing Report: August 12, 2005
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - There are still a few tarpon rolling around the Moorings at daylight. Look for good trout action along the grass flats in 2 to 4 feet of water and use a live pigfish or a topwater bait. There has been reports of some slot size redfish in the area around the golf course just to the north of the Moorings flats. Still plenty of snapper around the local bridges. Offshore the kingfish have been the best bite with a lot of 10 to 20 pounders being reported. Most of the kings were caught in 20 to 50 feet of water. Bottom fishing for snapper, triggerfish and black seabass has been steady around Bethel Shoals.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY - Lots of action around the local bridges for snapper, sheepshead, sandperch and a few black drum. The catch and release snook action has been good around the flats and in the Turning Basin. Some nice flounder were reported coming from around the Ft. Pierce Inlet as well as the sandbar to the south of the South Bridge. Offshore there are plenty of kingfish down around the 12A Buoy area. Still some sailfish to the South starting in 70 feet of water. I had several reports of cobia to 55 pounds. Bottom fishing remains good over the reefs and wrecks. The dolphin fishing has been very slow with only a few fish reported out deep.
MARTIN COUNTY - There has been good reports of trout and redfish to the north of the Jensen Beach Causeway up to the powerline's. The West side of the river seems to be more productive. Still reports of catch and release snook on the flats early in the morning in the area near the power plant. Plenty of snapper, sheepshead and ladyfish along the channel edges. Offshore the action has been on the slow side unless you want kingfish. Fish from the St. Lucie Inlet north to the Power Plant and try trolling live baits in 20 to 40 feet of water. The reports of dolphin were that they are scattered in 200 to 260 feet of water. The bottom fishing around the Six and Eight Mile Reefs has been steady.
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - Still some good speck fishing being reported in the river. The bream continue to feed in the canals on live crickets. Bass fishing is still good at places like Harney Pond. Bill Usher reported catching a 8 pound 6 ounce bass at Harney Pond on Tuesday and he was using live shiners.
