Fishing Report: This is the time of year we wait for down here in the Keys. The water temperture is starting to drop and the fish are starting to stir, the pilchards are back, Dolphin, Blackfin Tuna and Sailfish are cruising the reef gorging themselfs on the millions of Ballyhoo there. We got out last week with Carson and his crew from Alabama, these guys were great they knew how to fish and how to cut up we laughed all day. The day started on the flats at Boot Key Harbor three throws of the cast net and the wells were full of fat Pilchards, we also pulled a Pinfish trap and added about 100 Pinfish to the wells and we were off. These guy's wanted to catch Grouper so we went out and hit some wrecks down to the West in around 150' of water. On the first drop we doubled up on big Mutton in the 20 lb class, and so the day went. Carson hooked up with what we think was a large Black Grouper as he ate a 12" Blue Runner , was fighting the fish on a 30 Tiagra and I think Carson was winning but I'm not sure. Dave was fighting an Amberjack that weighed in at 42 lbs and when my Mate Bret Norris pulled the Amberjack on the boat out of the corner of my eye I saw a blue flash behind him. I hooked up a live Pilchard ran to the front of the boat dropped it into the mouth of about a 40 lb Dolphin and handed off the rod to Scott. The Dolphin made a run to the Starboard side and then doubled back under the boat, crossing Carsons line which he was fighting the Grouper on and cuy both lines the Dolphin took one more jump cut line dragging behind him as to say ha ha. Mean while I saw the cow Dolphin hooked up another live bait and hooked her up and passed the rod to Scott again, this fish he easily landed and we had her blackened for dinner. All in all it was a great day with a great crew. We ended up with a good box of fish, 7 Mutton over 15lbs, 1 Blackfin 11lbs, 3 Amberjack over 25lbs, 1 Dolphin 13lbs. Oh yeah and did I forget to mention on the ride between wrecks we hooked up a Sailfish and jumped him off after about 5 minutes. Carson and his crew are scheduled to come back in January for some of our World Class Sail Fishing and they also want to try some Daytime Sword Fishing which is hot all year round down here in the Keys.
