Fishing Report:   At Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle, Tom reports the weather during the first 2 weeks in April kept most DE boaters landlocked due to high winds and cold, rainy days; had all of us wondering, “When is it(good fishing weather) going to start?” We got our answer on Friday, followed by a beautiful day on Saturday. Stripers up to 30 lbs were being taken on clams, bloodworms, and bunker. Saturday’s catch was caught while trolling the Brown Shoal, watching as a parade of 6-8 stripers were following a hooked fish right up to the boat. If you’re ever lucky enough to have this happen and he knows it’s tough not to get too excited – if you’re fishing with others on your boat, tell the net man to grab his rod and a small handful of bait. Loosen your drag a little, keeping the hooked fish and the “schoolies” close to the boat without spooking them. Toss a little chum, whatever you have and get everyone to throw out a line; chances are great everyone will hookup. Friday and Saturday they had 3 flounder come in, all over 6 lbs, all from in and around the rips at the Brown Shoal. These flats were fat and aggressively taking baits meant for stripers: mullet, cut spot, bloodworms, and clam. The guys targeting tog had great success. Randy Ritz started the action on Friday, bringing in their first fish of the season, coming in with his limit of tog from Site #7. Brian and Mike Logue also boated 2 tog in the 5 lb range. On Saturday, Capt. Art Coleman III and Art Coleman IV, fishing with Bob Evans and Weston Wloczewski aboard the Knot Talkin’ had their limit of tog within 45 min of dropping anchor at Site #7, up to 7 lbs and releasing the females(good job guys). Bob boated their lone striper while fishing the rips at the Brown Shoal. Until Saturday, all the striper action was further north, east of the elbow, Augustine Beach and Woodland Beach. The warmer weather brought in schools of striper and hopefully they’ll stay for a while. The Miss Ellie crew had their limit on tog using frozen hermits and frozen green crab. Capt. Shane Snyder of Fish Balz, Josh Kennedy, Craig Dorett, and Nate Belmonte came in with 3 tog and Nate landed a 27” flat weighing 6.23 lbs, measuring 27” long, with a 22’ girth on a 6” mullet while fishing for stripers at the Brown Shoal. Capt. Stan Smith of the Cindy Sue II and John Green also had their limit of tog from Site #7. Tom Egan and Eric King brought in their first drum of the season, weighing 20+ lbs while fishing in 15’ water SE of the Pin Top. This is a little early for hook and line. If Friday and Saturday were a taste of the upcoming season then we’re in for one great fishing summer!!

Tom and Judy are hosting their 3rd annual non-profit summer flounder tournament. AARD-ALLTUF has joined them this year and each participant will receive a custom tournament tee shirt and assortment of tackle items. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 finishers; 1st place $1000.00, 2nd place $500.00, and 3rd place $250.00. There will be weekly and monthly prize drawings and the Mendenhall Family will once again provide a first-class pig roast on July 11th for their Take the Family Fishing Day. Early registration until May 31st is 25.00, 35.00 thereafter. Catch some fish and save some lives!
