Fishing Report: NEW HAMPSHIRE FISHING REPORT
Jason MacKenzie at Suds-n-Soda in Greenland released this information in regard to their All Season Long Striper Tournament. "Entries will end on October 1st so we doubt that any of these first three winners will change. In first place, is a huge striper caught by Jeff Abraham on July 28th weighing 45.75 pounds and 52 inches. Second place holder is Jason Hopkinson with a 45.5 pounder that was 50 inches. Jason's dad, Thomas Hopkinson, has the third place striper that weighed 43.75 pounds and 49.5 inches. All of these fish were caught offshore on chunk bait aided by chumming."
"Right now, Great and Little Bays as well as the Piscataqua and most of the tributaries, are hosting big schools of huge pogies with bluefish and stripers taking advantage of this. Cod fishing is slow, but haddock fishing is good offshore, while there's been some reports of flounder returning to Pepperell Cove and the Wentworth Harbor."
George Taylor at Taylor's Trading Post in Madbury is still hyped-up about the freshwater bass fishing locally. "We've been selling a lot of shiners and tommy cod and the people are catching some real quality bass, both largemouth and smallmouths on this live bait. The Bellamy Reservoir, Swain's Pond, and most of the other local lakes as well as the Lamprey River from Lee downriver have been tremendous this year. Three's also some trout starting to show up from Bow Lake in Strafford, Lucas Pond in Northwood and Stonehouse Pond in Barrington."
"We're right in the middle of a bunch of great bass and panfish lakes and this is the time of year when the tourists leave, fishing pressure and boating slack off and the fishing picks up," reports Paul Garland at Hot Spot Outfitters in New Durham.
"Want a great cast and blast opportunity? Then try the Merrymeeting River here and in Alton for some great waterfowling and late season bass and pickerel. Also, below the dam in Alton there's a special late, fly-only, catch-and-release season for salmon that can be spectacular (and cold and windy!)."
"This is a great time of year to get out your Delorme Atlas and find some small ponds that will provide you with both solitude and some nice panfish catches."
Alan Nute at AJ's Bait and Tackle in Meredith reported that Lake Winnipesaukee produced some good fishing again last weekend but the fish still remain relatively deep, in the 40 foot range. Fish & Game biologist Don Miller landed a landlocked salmon over five pounds and friend Stan Kelly of Concord had a good day on the lake catching salmon, rainbow trout and one lake trout on a red (both sides) Top Gun lure. The surface water at Winni was 68 degrees. At Squam Lake, 64 degrees.
"There's some tremendous late season rainbow trout fishing available here in the Lakes Region. Although the bigger lakes are closed, some of the smaller lakes such as Waukewan and Winowna are open as well as most of the other lakes stocked with rainbow trout that are not designated lake trout and salmon lakes. Fish the surface with small, smelt imitating lures and flies." |
