Fishing Report:   October 12, 2005

The inshore fishing has picked up this week with plenty of trout action being reported around the Midway Road area to the South and the West side of the river to the north of Harbor Branch. Both area's have been best at first light and try using a top water bait or live finger mullet. The snook fishing remains steady around the area bridges at night and the best bet has been to use a big jig. During the day time try at Taylor Creek or in the Ft. Pierce Inlet. Live mullet has been hard to beat. Still some nice snapper reported along the channel edges mixed in with jacks, ladyfish and a lot of under sized grouper. Reports from the bridge fishermen has been that the bite for snapper, sheepshead, black drum and flounder has remained steady. The spanish mackerel and bluefish have started working their way into the Inlet.

Offshore there has not been a lot to talk about as the sea conditions have not been that good. But, the boats that did fish reported scattered dolphin at around 160 to 180 feet of water. The kingfish have been in 60 to 80 feet of water and a few cobia are over the reefs and wrecks. One thing they all agreered on was that there is plenty of cuda's and bonita to keep you busy.

The local chapter of National Teen Anglers held it's monthly inshore tournament on Sunday, October 9th. In the middle school division 2nd place went to Trey Farineau and 1st went to Brandon Abbate. Both students are from North Port Middle School. In the high school division 3rd went to Chad Painter, 2nd was James Piloto and 1st went to Taylor Purcell. All of these students are from Westwood High School. There was a tie for biggest fish of the tournament between Taylor Purcell and Brandon Abbate.
