Fishing Report: Ms. Gulf Coast fishing finally getting to Barrier Islands and rigs a little. The Whipasnapa Charter boat got to get out and go to Ship Island,Friday Feb. 26,2010. Went to investigate the Island a bit an scooped up a limit of reds plus a couple. The over 30 inch ones was no problem to find but, on light tackle a slight problem. The under 30 inch was a bit harder to find.
Found a couple nice sheepshead on a wreck close by, also was holding the two under reds for the limit.
Sunday the 29th, run out to the rigs finally, a bit chilly, so got a later
start then I like. An the winds where up a little that morning, so had to take it easy to keep from getting wet.
First stop was getting bait, but you would have thought we were inshore, white trout two at a time, croakers, reds two at a time, and the old hard head catfish. Had to catch most everything on the big 9oz butterfly jigs, and they can wear you out, but quite worth it!
We also caught gag grouper (12 to 14lb), small amberjack, lesser amberjack, speckle hind grouper, spanish mackerel, shark, few 10lb to 15lb red snapper, trigger fish and bluefish as we were coming in. The seas where calm and the sunset was beautiful.
As the the gorgeous full moon rose it wrapped up a wonderful day on the Whipasnapa Charter. Can't wait to go back.
