Fishing Report: November 18, 2005
INSHORE - The inshore fishing has been OK when you can get out of the wind. The snook fishing had remained steady around the Sebastian, Ft. Pierce and the St. Lucie Inlets. During the day you may want to try a live pinfish or a mullet. At night around the bridges and in the Turning Basin in Ft. Pierce you might try a large hand picked shrimp or a flair hawk. There has also been a good number of under sized snook up on the flats during the day. The catch and release trout have been in the deeper cut and have been moving slower with the water temps a little colder. You will just need to fish your baits a lot slower. There has been a good number of redfish around the Sebastian Inlet. The snapper are still along the channel edges of the Intercoastal and are feeding on small live shrimp. There has been plenty of sheepshead, sandperch and black drum around the local bridges. The spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks have been in the Inlets and along the beaches.
OFFSHORE - The offshore scene has been a mess to say the least. With all the wind we are having the seas have been bigger than normal. All this week it has been about the bait fishing. All of the S.K.A. anglers have been looking for bait and it has been hard to find. Some of the boats did get out on Wednesday and were lucky enough to find bait. They are calling for big seas this weekend but everyone is hoping that it will lay down enough so they can safely fish the tournament. Good luck to all the teams fishing the tournament.
TEEN ANGLERS - The monthly inshore fishing tournament of the National Teen Anglers was held last Sunday with quite a few fish weighed in. In the middle school division first place went to Michael Hernandez of Lincoln Park Academy, second place was Luis Hernandez, and third was George Hazen, both of Northport Middle School. In the high school division first place went to Alex Shaffer of Lincoln Park Academy, second place was Chris Schoemaker and third was Bryce Doughty both of Westwood High School. The next monthly tournament will be held on December 11th at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce. For more info go to the web at www.teenanglers.org.
