Fishing Report: March 25, 2005
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Look for the trout in 3 to 5 feet of water around places like the Moorings Flats and the area around Grand Harbor. Live shrimp have been hard to beat. There are still some small snook around the docks and also small snapper and sheepshead along the channel edges of the Intercoastal. I did have reports of a few redfish around the golf course at the Moorings. Offshore look for a few scattered dolphin in 200 feet of water. Kingfish were reported in the 70 foot range and a few cobia to the South around the Cove area
ST. LUCIE COUNTY - The snook action remains good around the Ft. Pierce Inlet during the daylight hours. Pinfish has been the bait of choice. The trout action remains good around the Midway Road area as well as at Herman's Bay. Still a lot of bottom fish around the bridges like black drum, sheepshead and sandperch. Offshore the big news is the cobia. There were a lot reported on Tuesday to the south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet and in 60 to 90 feet of water. Also, several dolphin reported in 200 feet of water to the south of the Inlet. In close try for spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks along the beach
MARTIN COUNTY - Lots of snook reported around the bridges at night. Still getting reports of pompano around the St. Lucie Inlet and the trout fishing remains good from the Jensen Beach Causeway to Herman's Bay. Offshore there were a few good reports of dolphin around Push Button Hill. Most of the fish were under 15 pounds. Bottom fishing for snapper and grouper remains good along the Six Mile Reef. Also a few reports of cobia coming from the Sic Mile Reef. I did get a few reports of pompano and whiting coming from the surf around the Power Plant
BRAGGING BOARD - Hal Weliver of Okeechobee reports that he caught a 27 inch trout while fishing at Jack Island. Hal was using live shrimp and did catch several more trout. Sunnie Rumberger and Lori Campbell both caught their first dolphin on Saturday. They had a total of 5 dolphin in the 4 to 10 pound range while trolling ballyhoo at Push Button Hill on the boat M'Ocean To Strike with Rob Gluckman.
