Fishing Report: April 8, 2005
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY - Good reports are coming from the Sebastian Inlet with a lot of snook and redfish feeding on live baits. Still plenty of trout around on the flats and the sheepshead, weakfish and small snapper are along the channel edges. The spanish mackerel are still around but not as many as last week. Offshore you can try for kingfish in 30 to 70 feet of water. Also reports of some nice cobia in 50 feet of water and scattered dolphin in around 200 feet.
ST. LUCIE COUNTY - There has been a good number of reports of nice size trout coming from Bear Point down to Herman's Bay and also around the Midway Road area. The redfish have been active in shallow water along the dock lines at St. Lucie Village. The snook fishing has also been good while fishing the Ft. Pierce Inlet and around the bridges. The bait of choice this week has been greenies. Off shore look for dolphin in 300 plus feet of water. I got several reports that the cobia were in 50 to 80 feet and there is a lot of kingfish in the 12 to 15 pound range in 50 to 70 feet of water. Plenty of spanish mackerel, bluefish and pompano along the local beaches.
MARTIN COUNTY - There have been good reports of trout coming from the area just south of the Jensen Beach Causeway and on the East side of the river. Still a few snook around the bridges. The spanish mackerel, bluefish and big jacks are around the St. Lucie Inlet. Offshore you can look for dolphin that have been scattered in 200 to 300 feet of water. There have been a few cobia in about 50 feet of water to the north of the St. Lucie Inlet. There has been a good number of small kingfish along the beaches. The bottom fishing on the Six and Eight Mile Reefs has been steady for snapper, sheepshead and black sea bass.
OKEECHOBEE COUNTY - There should be plenty of specks along the Kissimmee River for anglers using live minnows. Good reports of catfish around the Lake and the bass fishing has been good with live shiners.
TEEN ANGLERS - This Sunday will be the last regular inshore fishing tournament for the local chapter of the Teen Anglers. The toruanment will be at Jaycee Park in Ft. Pierce at 6:45am. If you would like more info on Teen Anglers just go to the web at www.teenanglers.org.
BRAGGING BOARD - Ed and Carol Hartman reported that there were a few sailfish still around. They caught and released a 4 foot sail in 100 feet of water just south of the Ft. Pierce Inlet.
CATCH OF THE WEEK - Rob and Tammy Ward weighed in a 6 pounds 7 ounces daughter on April 6, 2005. Kaitlyn Marie is our second granddaughter. She will join her big sister, Savannah, age 4 at home soon.
