You must decide what type of trip you want to take because there are so many different types of fishing and hunting packages available. The first thing you would decide is what style of fishing and what fish you want to catch. Do you want to try a little fly fishing, deep sea fishing for those magnificent halibut, or do you want to try a remote fly-in trip into the wilderness to fish for salmon in one of Alaska's many rivers?
Some of the types of Alaska fishing vacations would include:
- Remote fly-out fishing - Fly farther up river for a slpendid secluded hunt or fish trip.
- Fly-In fishing trips - Same basically, flying into a secluded place in the Alaskan wilderness.
- River fishing for the many species of salmon - From the bank, boat, or wade fishing for the different Salmon species
- Halibut fishing trips - Usually a chartered trip into deeper water for the prized halibut
- Hunting and fishing combo trips - A few days of fishing and a few days of hunting, usually as part of a package.
- Fly fishing trips - Self explanatory and many guides will specialize in fly-fishing only.

Things to look for in your Alaska fishing lodge or cabin would be things like how far from the fishing grounds are they, do they provide food or do you cook your own meals and other things of this nature.
